Reporting to the Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Director, Quality, Safety and Education, this position is a leadership role responsible for supporting clinical services, quality assurance, commissioning, and development of new techniques and protocols. The successful candidate will ensure high standards for Nuclear Medicine (NM) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging policies, processes, procedures, and systems for service delivery to patients.

Located in Edmonton, the successful candidate will have the opportunity for a concurrent University of Alberta appointment to contribute to the accredited NM Residency Training Program, training of Medical Physicists, as well as research opportunities.

As a Medical Physicist within AHS Diagnostic Imaging, the successful candidate will join our provincial team and play a large role in supporting a comprehensive radiation protection program and academics. The Medical Physicist will have the opportunity to participate in academic endeavors including teaching programs, developing original research programs, providing regular contributions to medical physics research, and providing supervision of trainees in research.

The position will be accountable clinically to ensure the provision of high-quality, safe, and efficient imaging services through quality assurance, quality control, and acceptance testing for all NM imaging equipment, ancillary support equipment, and providing leadership in the radiation protection program. The successful candidate will have key partnerships with clinical practitioners, medical physicists, operational directors/managers and supervisors, Radiation Safety Officers, researchers, and academic leads.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent in Medical Physics or Medical Health Physics.
  • Certified or eligible for certification by the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM), American Board of Radiology (ABR), American Board Medical Physicist (ABMP), or American Academy of Health Physics (AAHP) or other Canadian recognized equivalencies.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the imaging and physics aspects of x-ray.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high clinical standards, strong interpersonal, and leadership skills.

Additional Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in the imaging and clinical physics aspects of Nuclear Medicine (NM) and/or Positron Emission Tomography (PET).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specialization in Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission Tomography.
  • Experience in teaching adult learners.
  • Minimum of 3 years leadership/management role in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity.
