Job Description

Build NS is currently recruiting a Mechanical Engineer to join the Build NS Healthcare Infrastructure Team.Reporting to the Project Director, the Mechanical Engineer will be a key part of the Build NS Healthcare Infrastructure Team, uniquely qualified to provide guidance and strategy regarding the development of mechanical building system requirements in projects of various sizes and delivery methods. The specifics of the job will vary according to the project delivery method, scope, and clinical, operation, or technical requirements.The Mechanical Engineer focuses on building efficient systems that ensure maximum comfort and optimize projects for the longevity of asset life and return on investment. This includes specialist systems and infection control, crucial for patient safety and comfort.This is a five (5) year term position which is eligible for all Build Nova Scotia benefits.QualificationsMust be a Professional Engineer, with a degree in mechanical engineering with a minimum of 8 years experience in the building design and construction industry.Must have demonstrated experience with healthcare-related design and construction (a minimum of 3 years experience, and/or three projects) and experience with CSA Healthcare Mechanical standards, and all current and pending national codes and standards.Experience in producing construction drawings and details and demonstration of the ability to review and red-line construction documents, both from the viewpoint of the mechanical discipline, constructability, and overall project coordination with other disciplines.Experience or willingness to learn E-Builder project management integration software, and construction software (Procore, Project Sight etc.) required.Experience or willingness to learn Microsoft 365, PowerPoint, MS Teams, BIM and/or AutoCAD.Strong problem solving skills.Strong verbal and written communications skills.The ability to create innovative and critical thought to work projectsHigh degree of diplomacy in providing advice and solutions to senior management.Ability to adapt rapidly to changing circumstances and environments.Building, managing, and supporting successful multi-stakeholder partnerships.Advanced time management and organizational skills.Proven team player working collaboratively with management, peers and client.ResponsibilitiesThe job responsibilities begin at project inception and encompass duties including:Scope definition including gathering information from stakeholders and managing their expectations.Programming, planning and pre-design activities, budgeting, scheduling, procurement of consultants (including writing Requests for Proposal documents in conjunction with procurement team).Design supervision and coordination.Review of consultant-prepared documentation.Preparation of tender documents, construction tendering, award, change management and site review and administration.This position will also be responsible for supporting the Project Delivery team through the planning, design, and construction of large and complex healthcare projects delivered through various delivery methods, Public-Private Partnerships (P3s), Design Bid Build (DBB, Construction Management (CM) or Design Build (DB) by assisting in establishment, design, and delivery of mechanical design requirements in the Healthcare setting.For some small projects, the duties may include the preparation of specifications, cost estimates and tender documents, however, the main body of work is large scale, new health care design and construction projects and major renovations to existing facilities.May perform other related duties as assigned.
