This position is for a research scientist position focused on developing and utilizing closed loop autonomous research processes to deliver CanmetMATERIALs program objectives. The incumbent will, in consultation with research scientists and technologists and in direct support of program objectives, develop and apply artificial intelligence, modelling, experimental automation and data management practices in materials science, as required to meet program objectives. The incumbent will participate in and lead projects; supervising technicians, engineers, science support and scientists using the CanmetMATERIALS facilities. They will advise on automation and artificial intelligence methods, instruct others in applications of these technologies as required, and lead in the interpretation of results. Their research will contribute to the economic and environmental success of Canadian industry, and to the quality of life of Canadians derived from the value-added use of materials. Work environmentThis position is located in Mississauga, Ontario. CanmetMATERIALS is a materials research laboratory with offices in Hamilton and Mississauga Ontario that provides world-class R&D in partnership with universities and industry. It supports innovation in advanced materials, manufacturing and clean energy. Intent of the processThe intent of this process is to staff one 2-year determinate position located in Mississauga, Ontario.Positions to be filled: 1 Information you must provideIn order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)EducationGraduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized postsecondary institution in a field of natural science or engineering related to the duties of the position, such as Materials Science or Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics, coupled with acceptable research, training and experience.Productivity/Recognition: Productivity in scientific research as demonstrated by achievements in the form of authorship of: published papers, reports or books, resulting from output of scientific research related to the duties of the position.NOTE: Productivity or recognition includes developmental work leading to the issue of patents, copyrights, or the creation of improved varieties, functions, or designs, and/or recognition by the professional community of the research environment. It also refers to recognized achievement in the form of authorship and editorship of published or unpublished reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from: • Research, experimental development, or tasking associated with operational equipment and problems, • Operational research and scientific analysis related to the duties of the position or, • Planning, analysis and evaluation of Canadian and foreign programs in research and development. Experience• Experience in conducting materials research and development in midstream critical minerals applications, or energy technology applications with focus in vehicle material technologies, materials for energy production or materials utilization in pipelines. • Experience in automated processes (virtual or physical) or establishing closed loop processes. • Experience in collaborative research with universities, government, science-based non-government organizations or industry.
