TITLE:                          Marketing and Sales Specialist
(3 year contract with the possibility of extension)
REPORTS TO:           Marketing and Brand Manager
Purpose of Position
The Marketing and Sales Specialist works to support ongoing marketing and sales activities in identified key markets and for select audiences.
This position coordinates and executes of the Museum’s day-to-day marketing and sales efforts. In consultation with the Marketing and Brand Manager, the experienced Marketing and Sales Specialist has responsibilities for the Museum’s brand and ensures that all activities focus on increasing awareness and visitation. Sales functions include the coordination of activities with specific attention to receptive tour operators, groups, motor coaches and Frequent Individual Travelers (FIT).
The Marketing and Sales Specialist brings fresh ideas and awareness of marketing and travel trade trends, in support of the Museum’s corporate goals. The individual is enthusiastic and understands the value of collaboration internally and externally in pursuit of common objectives.
This role requires the ability to travel domestically and internationally.
Essential Position Functions
Marketing and Branding
  • Coordinates digital and traditional media buys to reach target audiences in appropriate channels.
  • Works closely with digital media agencies and vendors to optimize in-market activities and achieve campaign results. Coordinates the design, execution and placement of advertising/promotion materials under the direction of the Marketing and Brand Manager. Includes providing copy, proofreading and managing feedback/revisions.
  • Works closely with the Graphic Designer acting as co-brand champions to ensure brand and messaging are consistent across all channels and visitor touch points.  
  • Provides marketing and brand support to all departments across the organization.
  • Maintains asset archives for marketing and branding purposes.
  • Contributes to the Museum’s visitation strategy and ongoing research initiatives to maximize visitation goals.
  • Coordinates and inputs invoices into the departmental budget reconciliation worksheet.
Sales
  • This position is a primary contact for the tourism trade industry including receptive tour operators (group and FIT) and tour operators, under the guidance of, and in consultation with the Marketing and Brand Manager.
  • May at times represent the Museum at select trade shows and conduct follow-ups to promote the Museum as a group tour destination and drive visitation.  
  • Supports and maintains existing group sales relationships. Works with the Marketing and Brand Manager and Visitor Experience team to identify and grow new ones.
  • Coordinates sales activities and FAM tours with the Assistant Manager, Interpretation to confirm bookings.
  • Researches sector trends and current Travel Trade best practices to support the development of a sales strategy for the Museum.
  • Undertakes market research and competitive analysis of other attractions in target markets.
  • Maintains accurate records of all sales and prospecting activities, contacts and status updates.
Education, Qualifications and Skills
  • Degree, Diploma or Certification in Hospitality/Tourism, Business, Marketing, Sales and/or related experience.
  • Minimum four years of experience in a B2B sales position, preferably within the tourism or travel trade sector. Experience in a marketing or media buying role is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated relationship management and building skills with external parties.
  • Demonstrated sales negotiation skills.
  • Experience tracking budgets.  
  • Practical understanding of digital advertising, conversion, and online customer acquisition. Includes knowledge of Meta Business Manager, Google Ads, Google Analytics, and Google Tag Manager.
  • Excellent research and documentation.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Superior attention to detail and quality.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and/or tasks concurrently.
  • Creative and solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • Flexible attitude with proven experience of working independently and in a small team environment. The ability to communicate in French is a significant asset.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands
This position is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
In-office environment
Flexibility to work irregular hours as required.
Able to travel domestically and internationally.
Compensation for this position is commensurate with experience and includes a comprehensive benefit package. The salary range for this role is: $50,209 - $62,163.
