Primary Responsibilities

The Canadian Transit Market Sector Lead will be responsible for building and expanding our transportation consulting business with transit clients across Canada. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to contribute to the overall growth of an established and growing Canadian transit consulting practice that is an important part of HDR’s global transportation business.

HDR’s transit practice has work in all modes of public transit – commuter rail, subway (metro), LRT, BRT, and conventional buses – as well as transit stations, terminals, depots, and maintenance and storage facilities. We will count on you to lead the growth and expansion of the transit team, positioning HDR as a preferred service provider in the areas of planning, design, program management and construction administration by client relationship building, developing and implementing marketing strategies, raising the profile of HDR, identifying and pursuing opportunities, and overall financial performance of the market sector. Related responsibilities include giving focus and attention to project delivery, quality, financials, and technical excellence.

This leader will have project management responsibilities include planning, directing, and monitoring all aspects of multi-discipline projects with a high degree of technical complexity.

The Transit Market Sector Leader will report to the Canadian Transportation Business Group director. In addition, the Leader will work closely with HDR’s Canadian and global transportation technical (business class) leaders in a collaborative team environment. The Leader will also function as a Senior Project Manager.

Highlights of the position responsibilities include:

  • Lead, develop, manage and monitor the business development efforts in the Market Sector including establishing plans and budgets, tracking and reporting business development activities and financial results, monitoring performance indicators that require action and process improvements. 
  • Participate in industry associations and serve as a company role-model in business and community organizations.
  • Assess the marketplace for market sector and determine best business approach to win and secure contracts.
  • Carry out relationship building, networking, professional organization involvement by participating in business, industry, and community activities as representative of HDR.
  • Provide leadership on company participation and marketing activities for market sector related conferences. This includes abstract submission coordination across HDR.
  • Ensure that the client management program at HDR thrives and succeeds.
  • Work with the client development leaders to lead and drive relationship strategies, identify opportunities and use established processes based on proven capture techniques.
  • Coordinate staffing and recruiting plans for key hires and assist local leadership as necessary with local hires. Identify resource gaps and support talent management and recruiting.
  • Interact with national Transit leadership across North America
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of industry experience
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams
  • Works cooperatively with executive leaders, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong skills in client management, client development and a documented history of growing/leading a transit practice
  • Strong ability to analyze the marketplace and strategically position HDR
  • Commitment to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in all aspects of transit planning and engineering
