THE OPPORTUNITY

The Manager, Warehouse & Inventory Control will report to the Director, Logistics and is responsible for supervising the warehouse, inventory and supply chain of Al-Pac’s products across stores and the pulp warehouse. This new position will be leading a team of Team Leads and Pulp Warehouse employees. The Manager, Warehouse & Inventory Control will be highly involved in building a strong safety culture, reporting on inventory, planning inventory shipment, and planning efficient use of warehouse space. In addition, this role will supervise teams to ensure effective and efficient inventory control, including receiving of inventory and outbound shipment of inventory; receiving, storing, and managing inventory; and dispatching goods to customers and end-users.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Warehousing and Inventory Operations:

  • Directly supervises 5 team leads (4 shifts and 1 in store) and 2 pulp warehouse employees.
  • Directly supervises all the warehouse and inventory daily activities.
  • Works to maximize efficiency, productivity, and minimize staff overtime.
  • Complies to and is knowledgeable around policies and processes.

Health & Safety:

  • Ensures effective, safe operations.
  • Implements and administers Al-Pac’s related health and safety operational procedures and policies.

Logistics Data Analysis:

  • Analyzes and reports on data to increase productivity.
  • Loss prevention: ensures processes are followed to ensure timely and effective inbound and outbound inventory and forecasts future requirements for trucks and railcars based on customer requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring team members are utilizing SAP functions efficiently.

Shipping and Receiving:

  • Manages the warehouses to ensure teams follow the process of warehousing and distribution operations.
  • Ensures regulations for load plans are up to date and followed by the pulp warehouse.
  • Ensures training is up to date and completed on time for railcar movement in the yard.
  • Ensures the rail yard maintenance is up to date and follows rail safety protocol

Inventory Control

  • Executes inventory analysis monthly, quarterly, and as needed to report to Director, Logistics.
  • Understands and is comfortable with technology. Ideally SAP and other systems.
  • Identifies and resolves discrepancies and problems, oversees stock item master, identifying incorrect descriptions and stock numbers.
  • Ensures year end physical count in Stores is completed.
  • Aligns and communicates loading plans with Production, Sales and Logistics teams to ensure production, quality and delivery requirements are met.

Stakeholder Management and Relationship Building:

  • Identifies and maintains internal relationships with all Al-Pac departments, up to management levels and external stakeholders (railways, trucking companies, Department of Transport, railway maintenance companies, OH&S).
  • Identifies the needs, issues and/or concerns of internal and external stakeholders and responds to these by coordinating the development of stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of warehouse and inventory information and decisions.

Supervision and Direction:

  • Communicates the function’s strategy and its relationship to the organization’s mission, vision and values; clarifying the actions needed to implement it within warehousing and inventory.
  • Motivates Team Members to commit to these objectives and to do extraordinary things to achieve the organization’s business goals.
  • Promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to safety and quality.

Performance Measurement and Management:

  • Manages and reports on the performance of the warehouse and inventory operations.
  • Sets appropriate performance management objectives for direct reports and holds them accountable for achieving these, taking appropriate actions where necessary.
  • Hires, assesses, manages and develops talent to meet current and future goals.


FIRST YEAR – MEASURES OF SUCCESS

  • Foster and establish a proactive safety culture by implementing continuous improvements, raising awareness and promoting best practices to ensure a safe environment.
  • Enhance, create and streamline inventory management within the warehouse and stores to maximize efficiency.
  • Create an effective 8–12-week plan with logistics and focus on forecasting by collaborating with other teams..


THE INDIVIDUAL

Given the pivotal role this individual will be expected to play in achieving the strategic objectives of the company and in supporting the success of the organization, it is essential that the successful candidate possess the following core competencies, experience, and attributes:

Education

  • Post-secondary education including a degree and/or diploma, or its equivalent in business experience.

Experience

  • 5+ years of progressive, relevant experience, and demonstrated accomplishments in a supply chain environment.
  • 3+ years progressively related supervisory or management experience.
  • Working knowledge of current trends and developments in warehouse and inventory operations and processes.
  • Demonstrated effective relationship management, both internal and external.
  • Has a thorough understanding of recognized industry bodies of knowledge and specialist bodies of knowledge as it relates to managing and oversight of application databases and tools.

Al-Pac professional staff work Monday – Thursday from 7am – 5pm.
