Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)
We are looking for a Manager, Systems Engineering to join our team in Toronto!
The successful candidate will be the single point, end-to-end, technical authority for the assigned projects(s).
Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical leader of the Project in front of the Customer
  • Create the cross-discipline Technical Teams (working groups) required to develop new solutions
  • Take responsibility and ownership for the entire technical solution (end-to-end), not just the System Design and not just the Engineering deliverables
  • Make Decisions on major technical tradeoffs that impact solution; which will potentially lead to changes in scope, cost and schedule (to benefit the project)
  • Enforce the internal GATES ensuring phase containment and ensuring cost control
  • Host the external GATES (CDR, PDR, FDR) with the Customer
  • Ensure compliance to the technical requirements of the contract and ensure that Project Management gets waivers for intentional non-compliances at an early stage
  • Elicit, manage and mitigate Technical Risks
System Definition / Design Phase
  • Work with PSM to make any changes in Bid plans/assumptions based on final negotiations
  • Define Gates and entry/exit criteria
  • Review and approve all technical Plans
  • Review and approve the Level 2 plan and ensure that the project phasing approach is complete and consistent with project objectives, look cross-functional (Create and own system build plan)
  • Make major technical tradeoffs based on project objectives and product strategy
  • Approve completion of PDR: internal Gate for System Design completion
  • Host external Gates with Customer
  • Manage risks and Facilitate resolution of cross-functional problems
  • Manage Customer Relationship vis a vis Technical issues
System Implementation Phase
  • Monitor build-up of Design Verification Matrix
  • Manage risks
  • Facilitate resolution of cross-functional problems
  • Work with System Engineering to resolve defects in System Design
  • Coordinate technical changes to System Design initiated by customer
  • Monitor System Maturity Performance Measurements
  • Approve internal Gate for implementation completion
System Integration Phase
  • Monitor build-up of Design Verification Matrix
  • Manage risks
  • Ensure defects are prioritized and assigned to correct teams
  • Facilitate resolution of cross-functional problems
  • Ensure monitoring of system performance
  • Approve internal Gate for Integration completion
System Acceptance Phase
  • Monitor build-up of Design Verification Matrix
  • Manage risks
  • Facilitate resolution of cross-functional problems
  • Monitor System Performance
  • Approve internal Gate for Acceptance completion
Required Skills and Experience:
  • University degree in Computer sciences, Engineering or a closely related field
  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in development of software-based applications
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a leadership role
  • Good marketing and presentation skills
  • Ability to sell/defend product to customers with differing levels of knowledge about automated systems
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Involved in the delivery of at least 1 SelTrac project in some capacity
  • Strong application (automated train control systems) domain knowledge and knowledge of modern software engineering practices, methods and tools
