Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Risk and Controls (R&C) – Governance and Risk Advisory, the Manager, Risk & Controls - Transformation will:

Governance Improvement

  • Be a recognized subject matter expert in governance and risk management, providing enterprise-wide ‘design’ and ‘advisory’ support to help ensure Management understands leading practices and is setting up and executing successful risk management improvement programmes.
  • Actively support key business teams to execute planned improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with Management and internal audit to facilitate understanding and alignment on previous audit findings and future expectations.
  • Provide support to Management in establishing a programmatic transformation capability, facilitating risk-based trade-offs across a broad range of projects and senior stakeholders. Use superior influencing skills to facilitate these decisions without direct authority.
  • Be responsible for the R&C Transformation program. Operate as an enterprise-wide integrator who understands Parkland’s transformation strategic goals/project plans and designs & delivers integrated risk management and advisory work programs, partnering with other members of R&C, as well as wider teams including IT, People & Culture, Organizational Change Management and NextGen.
  • Bring significant transformation, continuous improvement, and process experience and operate as an influential business partner (influence without direct authority), bringing value-added insight to the Business and supporting the continued enhancement of the Governance and Risk Advisory Programs.

How

  • Partner directly with Directors and VP, Risk Management to define work scopes, influence change in the organization and advance the programs for which the Manager is responsible.
  • Build teams (onsite, virtual, and hybrid) for each project, which are composed of R&C, business, and consultant resources, depending on each Program's requirements.
  • Bring a commercially focused, value-added, risk management mindset and demonstrate a track record of ‘thinking outside of the box’ and driving significant innovation in the delivery of the Programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Transformation Program:

  • Scope and Authority: Lead a portfolio of enterprise-wide improvement projects intended to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and scalability of Parkland’s operations. Represent R&C with Director and VP-level staff to advocate for and build consensus/support for the Program.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives for continuous process improvement, leveraging methodologies like Six Sigma, Lean, or Kaizen to enhance business efficiency and effectiveness. Work with the business to help improve and transform business processes and unlock additional value for Parkland.
  • Risk Management: Implement robust risk management strategies and controls to mitigate risks. This involves identifying potential risks in business operations and implementing measures to control or eliminate those risks.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Operations, HSE, Legal and Regulatory, and People & Culture, to facilitate process improvements and risk management strategies. Engage with senior management and stakeholders to report on progress, recommendations, and value creation.
  • Technology Enablement: Work with IT and Digital teams to implement and optimize technology solutions that support business process improvements, risk and control management.
  • Change Management: Collaborate with Organizational Change Management to ensure successful execution, minimize change impact and resistance and ensure high levels of engagement among stakeholders.
  • Performance Measurement: Define and measure success metrics and monitor change progress to ensure projects achieve desired outcomes.

Governance Improvement Program:

  • Subject Matter Expertise in Governance and Risk Management: Serve as a trusted authority on governance and risk management. Provide enterprise-wide design and advisory support. Educate management on leading practices for successful risk management improvement programs.
  • Support for Business Teams: Proactively assist key business teams in implementing and executing planned improvement initiatives.
  • Collaboration with Management and Internal Audit: Work closely with management and internal audit to ensure there is a clear understanding and alignment regarding past audit findings and future expectations.
  • Programmatic Transformation Capability Support: Aid management in establishing and developing a strategic transformation capability that manages risk-based trade-offs. Engage with a wide range of projects and senior stakeholders, leveraging superior influencing skills to guide decisions without direct authority.

Qualifications and Skills:

Educational Background:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree (e.g., MBA) or professional certifications (e.g., CRM, ERM, Six Sigma Black Belt, PMP, PROSCI) is preferred.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in business process management, continuous improvement, transformation, or a similar role with a mix of consulting and industry experience with a multinational corporation.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Methodologies: Proficiency in process improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean Six Sigma). Proficiency in risk management principles and practices is beneficial.
  • Leadership: Ability to build strong relationships within the team and the business. Ability to influence others and build multi-functional teams comprised of R&C, Business and Consultants.
  • Project Management: Excellent project management skills with the ability to multitask under strict deadlines, resolve problems, and make decisions quickly and effectively.
  • Communication: Effective communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with various stakeholders and ability to drive buy-in for the transformation initiatives.

Technological Proficiency:

  • Familiarity with business process management software, data analysis tools, and ERP systems.

Innovative and Design Thinking:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Capacity to think creatively and devise innovative solutions to complex problems.
