Our client is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance and Repair Engineer to oversee the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and repairs for one of Ontario’s largest health care facilities. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the facility’s infrastructure is maintained at the highest standards, promoting a safe, efficient, and functional environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Maintenance and Repair Engineer Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the daily maintenance and repair operations within the facility.
- Ensure all systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and structural elements, are functioning optimally.
- Lead a team of trade staff, including electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and general maintenance workers.
- Provide guidance, training, and support to ensure high performance and adherence to safety standards.
- Collaborate with the projects team to plan and execute facility upgrades, renovations, and new installations.
- Ensure all projects are completed on time, within scope, and budget.
- Develop and manage the maintenance department budget.
- Track expenditures and implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality and safety.
- Manage HR responsibilities for the maintenance team, including recruitment, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
- Manage procurement of necessary materials, tools, and equipment, ensuring availability for maintenance activities.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
- Promote a culture of safety, conducting regular inspections and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain a hands-on approach by regularly inspecting the facility, identifying potential issues, and ensuring prompt resolution.
- Be readily available to address emergencies and critical issues as they arise.
The successful candidate has:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in facility maintenance and repair, preferably in a large healthcare setting.
- A proven record of 5+ years in leadership and team management skills.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and structural systems.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in budget management and procurement processes.
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations and best practices.
- Project management certification (e.g., PMP) is a plus.
- Effective communication and people skills.
Compensation and benefits:
- The compensation will range from $125,000 to $145,000 depending on experience.
