The

Manager of Commercialization & IP Mobilization

providesleadership and oversight to commercialization activities within the Office ofResearch and Innovation at GBC. The incumbent will leverage their deepknowledge and experience in commercialization and technology transfer toharness the College’s resources to support improved commercialization outcomesfor regional entrepreneurs, SMEs, and academic researchers. The Manager willwork closely with Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON) to provide connectionsand referral to Provincial resources and ensure that the commercializationservices offered by GBC are aligned with the priorities of the government andrelated agencies. The Manager will also work in close collaboration withstaff and leadership of the GBC Office of Research & Innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

Establish and execute an intake process to develop a pipeline of regional entrepreneurs and SME’s who could benefit from commercialization services and support offered by the College and/or IPON with particular focus on priority sectors of advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation.

Build strong, sustainable relationships with industry, community, startGBC and local academic partners (particularly Technology Transfer Offices) as well as relevant industry associations and other ecosystem partners to support IPON’s commercialization mandate.

Develop and report against an annual strategic plan.

Liaise with IPON for the purpose of providing referrals and developing a deep understanding of IPON services and supports to enable effective amplification.

Work with the Office of Research & Innovation and IPON to develop standardized agreement templates to address ownership, licencing and transfer of IP generated because of collaborative research and innovation projects.

Work directly with SMEs on their commercialization plans.

Conduct prior art searches and develop patent landscape analyses and intellectual property strategies for clients.

Coordinate and collaborate with startGBC to deliver services and facilitate referrals.

Identify funding opportunities, prepare funding proposals, develop project budgets and work with the Office of Research & Innovation to submit grant applications where appropriate.

Accountable for the initiation, execution, and successful completion of commercialization projects.

Other duties asassigned. Educational and Experience Requirements:

Master’s Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution is required.

Minimum of seven (7) years’ work-related experience or similar experience required.

Incumbent must have significant experience in commercialization and/or technology transfer.

Experience in a post-secondary education institution is an asset.

Experience with creating, filing, and/or managing intellectual property in Canada or the United States

Experience in a post-secondary education institution is an asset.

Experience in project management and team leadership including hiring, training, mentoring and managing performance issues.

Skills andAttributes:

Excellent communication, networking, and strategic planning skills are essential, with the ability to cultivate and maintain strong professional relationships and an effective network of contacts.

Incumbent must have capacity to think and act strategically to assess and mitigate risk, and to resolve complex problems with good judgement and diplomacy.
