Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure operations capabilities meet or exceed all customer and corporate requirements for unit cost, service quality, and responsiveness as the company grows
  • Work closely with the General Manager and Maintenance Manager on operational plans, goals, and contribute to future innovations
  • Responsible for planning and supervising the fuel truck operator and heavy-duty mechanics
  • Maintains comprehensive maintenance and repair records for all company fleet units
  • Creates new equipment parts service log
  • Liaises with other field managers for the repair and maintenance of all heavy machinery
  • Maintains comprehensive records of heavy equipment with respect to down time, mechanical malfunctions and repairs necessary. Assembles reports on the suitability, availability, and operating costs of various models of equipment.
  • Maintains parts stock and orders necessary parts stock as required and maintains asset management system
  • Contacts heavy equipment companies to provide servicing of highly specialized mechanical repairs.
  • Assists Area Manager, Maintenance in determining the required specifications for new equipment
  • Performs administrative duties such as keeping time sheets, maintaining daily equipment logs, and submitting manufacturer warranties.
  • Demonstrate understanding and compliance to the company’s Code of Ethics.
  • Must examine situations in light of the Code of Ethics principles
  • Other duties as may be required

Leadership

  • Provide daily guidance to staff to ensure alignment with operational and customer expectations
  • Develop a culture of safety, professionalism, and service excellence in operational division
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to subordinates and other employees
  • Motivate staff to achieve results
  • Create and maintain a climate of leadership growth in support of the company’s core values and philosophy
  • Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives

Education & Training

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Red Seal Journeyman certification  required
  • Engineering degree or technical diploma/certificate considered an asset
  • Class 5 Drivers’ License and clean driving record
  • Principles of Health and Safety Management
  • Leadership for Safety Excellence
  • First Aid (Level C) CPR
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office applications, OEM Software and maintenance software

Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in heavy duty equipment maintenance with at least three of those years in a leadership role (superintendent/supervisory)
  • Experience working on or operating heavy haul trucks and/or auxiliary equipment would be an asset (Volvo, Caterpillar etc.)
  • Experience driving a front-end loader would be an asset

Technical Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of heavy equipment, maintenance, and repair
  • Knowledge of technical construction terminology and principles
  • Ability to prepare reports and to make cost, material, and equipment estimate
  • Knowledge of supervisory foreman practices and principles and ability to effectively plan, assign, and supervise work of subordinates
  • Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment applicable to the work
