The Guelph Food Innovation Centre (GFIC) in the Department of Food Science offers research services to the food industry to support innovation, safety, quality, functionality, and cost-effectiveness needed for products to be competitive in the Canadian marketplace. Reporting to the departmental Chair, the Manager is responsible for: (1) coordinating GFIC activities and projects such as business development, budget forecasting, project scoping, and reporting; (2) monitoring GFIC project payments and expenses and reporting financial and personnel information to the Administrative Officer; and (3) participating in the execution of GFIC projects including conducting literature reviews, and supervising staff and students.
Requirements of the position include: Masters of Science degree in food science with advanced knowledge of food technology and at least five years of industry experience in food product development; excellent project management skills; strong personnel management and supervisory skills; experience with food processing; experience with laboratory analytical equipment related to food and pilot plant equipment; understanding of research methods; demonstrable ability to think critically; ability to trouble shoot food manufacturing problems; excellent oral and written communication skills; and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
