What can I expect to do in this role?

In this dynamic and crucial role as the Manager of Exhibit Support at the Ontario Science Centre, you can expect to lead and provide direction across multiple work units, focused on electronic controls and AV for interactive exhibit fabrication, electrical systems and lighting, exhibit maintenance and cleaning, travelling exhibit set up and strike, special projects, tender preparations, contract management, and technical services for exhibits, exhibitions, program support infrastructure as well as live animal care, collections and asset management. This position involves establishing safe work practices, developing policies for operational excellence, and fostering innovation in exhibit interactive design and maintenance. You will manage a team, oversee budgeting and resource allocation, and ensure the safety and security of work environments across local and international venues.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

As per the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009, S.O. 2009, c. 22, Section 7, the incumbent of this position must be a Journeyperson in order to supervise the work of apprentices.

Overview

This role demands a leader with a blend of technical, managerial, and strategic planning skills, capable of driving innovation and excellence in exhibit fabrications and operations at the Ontario Science Centre.

Leadership and Management

• Proven experience leading and managing teams in the delivery of exhibits, programs and services, including financial and strategic planning, employee engagement, performance evaluation, and labour relations.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain internal and external stakeholder relationships, and coordinate shared interests effectively, while ensuring compliance with regulatory, legal, and policy commitments.

Technical Expertise and Operational Management

• Technical background in electronics and electrical and with extensive knowledge in reading architectural base drawings, exhibit design drawings as well as exhibit fabrication and operation processes.
• Expertise in project management principles, with a track record of managing budget and resources to drive productivity and operational efficiency in a custom-fabrication environment.
• Experience managing a diverse team in a unionized environment adopting best practices in human resources management.
• Ability to learn and adapt to government and ministry financial and administrative procedures.

Knowledge of Safety, Standards, and Codes

• Comprehensive understanding of legislation and standards for occupational health and safety, Ontario Building Code, Ontario Electrical Code, CSA and TSSA Environmental Protection Act requirements as they apply to the organization's facilities and exhibits as well as other relevant standards to ensure a production environment that is safe and free of hazards.
• Ability to implement and maintain safety and quality standards in the production and maintenance of exhibits, ensuring compliance with regulatory codes and continuous improvement in processes.
