Position Description:

Reporting tothe Director, Student Life and Career Services, the Manager, Career Planning& Development, plays a key role in George Brown College’s strategicpriority to prepare students for a successful transition from early careeractivities (understanding self, career search, interview skills, through jobplacement and post-graduation career identification through wraparound servicesand workshops.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develops and operationalizes an implementation plan to ensure Career Planning & Development Centers outcomes aligned with the Colleges Strategy for 2022 and Vision 2030. The Manager works proactively and collaboratively with the Academic Divisions to ensure Career Services remains relevant, and aligned with value-added services that are flexible and responsive to industry partners.
  • Leads Career Planning & Development team to high performance, including effectively hiring as needed and staffing all centers, guiding staff in professional development and training, allocating resources effectively, mentoring staff in effective teamwork, and managing human resource challenges as they arise. Ensures service team performance exemplifies excellence in career development service delivery. Staff include full-time, part-time, and student employees.
  • Directs and oversees marketing, outreach, and relationship-building internally and externally to promote awareness and encourage use of the services. Builds the Career Planning & Development brand. Sources sponsorship and partnership opportunities for Career Planning & Development growth and development. Negotiates effective relationships to ensure Career Planning & Development services are in demand across the college, and externally, are the partner of choice for employers.
  • Leads and provides direction for all tools and resources used in advancing student career development and employment attainment, including the online job posting system (currently “GBCareeers”), employer database, student handbooks, scheduling, and data collection systems, ePortfolio, interview, and resume, etc. software/platforms.
  • Ensures evidence-based practice through regular data collection and analysis of service impacts, outcomes, and client satisfaction. Ensures the dissemination of evaluative information to clients and ensures staff understand and use evidence to inform practice.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in a related field with experience leading teams.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of the future of skills and work, industry diversity, measurement and evaluation of outcomes relating to career planning & development.
  • Experience in providing exceptional partnership and stewardship to organizations and employers interested in recruiting and establishing relationships with the college.

  • Broad leadership skills managing a diverse team of experienced individuals.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, teamwork, and interpersonal skills at a professional level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College’s priorities on diversity and equity.
