Woodward & Co. Lawyers LLP is a national law firm with offices in Victoria and Tsartlip, BC. We aim to be the leading firm providing excellent legal services to Indigenous communities, governments, and businesses, and advancing transformative change in an era of reconciliation and decolonization.

As Woodward continues working with Indigenous communities across Canada, our team is in search of a lawyer of a 5–9-year call in BC with a background in Aboriginal, constitutional, environmental and/or administrative litigation.

Role Overview

The position is full-time and ideally located in Victoria, BC with an opportunity to travel to Indigenous communities.

This position requires a strong commitment to Indigenous self-determination and to the above values of excellence, respect, accountability, trust, and ethics.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position meets the following requirements:

  • 5-9 years of call
  • In good standing with one or more Canadian law societies and willing to be called to the bar in BC, ON, and in the north.
  • Litigation experience in Aboriginal law, Constitutional law, environmental law, and/or administrative law
  • Strong research, legal drafting, and analytical skills
  • Experience communicating complex and novel legal concepts in Court and to clients.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Flexibility to travel and work in Indigenous communities is a necessary condition of employment with a valid driver’s license to access remote communities.

We offer an anticipated salary range of $102,000 to $150,000 per year (to be negotiated with consideration for education and experience) with a generous range of benefits, including health, dental, RSP contributions, three weeks of vacation, wellness, relocation, and professional development allowances.

Woodward offers flexibility with a hybrid work model. This position is intended to support ongoing litigation files.
