Core hours for this position are Monday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Shiftwork is required and is based on operational needs.
Those shifts are: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on occasion, 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Note: This is a full-time Support position (35 hours per week).

Duties: Under the direction of the Director, Library Learning Commons, the Library Research Specialist is responsible for the provision of research and data services to the patrons of Fanshawe College Library, including askON virtual reference services. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating the development and maintenance of the majority of the program-specific research guides in the online library. The incumbent shares responsibility with the Outreach Specialist for developing, promoting information literacy tools, tutorials and presentations to a diverse student user community.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences from an American Library Association ( ALA )-accredited institution or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years’ public services experience in an academic library using advanced consultation and research skills and includes providing assistance to customers with information searches including scholarly databases, catalogues, statistical information (i.e. StatsCan) and internet
  • An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered; preference will be given to applicants meeting the education requirements
  • Experience using reference interview techniques in an academic library environment
  • Demonstrated superior customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform research at a post-secondary, bachelor-level/post graduate certification level
  • Experience developing and preparing guides and pathfinders for library patrons
  • Computer proficiency and experience using automated library systems, including an understanding of software
  • Proven ability to demonstrate processes for the use of information resources in a variety of formats – i.e. print, electronic, scholarly databases, statistical resources, etc.
  • Superior organizational skills and demonstrated ability to multitask
  • Understanding of social media
  • Understanding of resources available at all participating college libraries
