Join our team today.The City of Abbotsford is seeking a motivated, experienced, and energetic individual to fill the position of Director, Legislative Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership of the City Clerk?s Office.Reporting to the General Manager, Legal & Legislative Services, you will act as the Corporate Officer, the Chief Election Officer, and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act head of the City. Your responsibilities include the statutory functions set out under the Local Government Act and the Community Charter.This challenging role requires a high degree of independent action and discretion, excellent communication skills, and the ability to multitask in a demanding environment. This senior level position provides assistance to Council, committees of Council, the public, and City departments; prepares Council meeting agendas; records minutes of Council meetings; drafts council resolutions; and responds to official correspondence. Additionally, you will be responsible for City elections and referendums and the City?s records management and retention system.As the ideal candidate, you have:A degree in public administration, business administration, law, or equivalent. Local government certificates awarded by the Board of Examiners of the Province of British Columbia. A minimum of seven years of relevant experience in a Legislative Services department or City Clerk?s office. Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation including the Community Charter, Local Government Act, and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The ability to draft, revise, interpret, and apply relevant municipal bylaws. Strong management skills with a demonstrated track record of leadership and mentorship. Superior oral and written communication skills and the ability to coordinate activities with other City departments and related government agencies.The salary range for this position is $159,359.20 to 188,024.20.At the City of Abbotsford, we work strongly to create a challenging yet rewarding environment for our employees to thrive.
