Reporting to the Associate Statutory Director, Office of the Statutory Director (OSD), the Analyst is responsible for the project management related to legal proceedings including fatality inquiries as well as litigation involving Children’s Services.

The legal analyst will track and coordinate activities for all legal matters, including fatality inquires and litigation matters. Ensure that all records required for production in litigation claims, fatality inquiries, and other requests for records have been accurately collected, reviewed and appropriately redacted to protect legal and statutory privileges. This position plays a key role in locating and retrieving records as well as auditing the imaging, vetting, redacting, reviewing, providing feedback on the redacted work, tracking, and disclosure of the completed work.

About Your Work Environment
The primary office is located in downtown Edmonton, which you will be required to attend. You will have regular and ongoing contact with department staff in numerous locations across the province, as well as various other stakeholders both internal and external to the Government of Alberta. Some travel may be required.

Qualifications

Required:

A post-secondary degree in related discipline and four (4) years of directly related experience OR a two-year Legal Assistant Diploma with minimum of six (6) years of directly related experience OR equivalencies described below:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Required Experience:
 

  • Working with child intervention policy, legislation and documentation
  • Working with child intervention services policies/program and practice
  • Working within court, presentations and applicable administrative processes
  • Working within applicable legislation and regulations (i.e. CYFEA, PSECA, DECA, Child and Youth Advocates Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Fatality Inquiries Act, etc.) processes and procedures
     

The following experience would be considered assets:
 

  • Working within the civil litigation process
  • Working with Nuix Discover (formerly known as Ringtail), Documentum, other eDiscovery software, eScan-It, CYIM and/or CICIO
  • Project leadership
  • Specialized experience/training surrounding the review and production of records and evidence in civil litigation and fatality inquiries
