Role Overview

Lead QA Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our software products. They lead and mentor a talented team of QA engineers, overseeing the entire testing process from test strategy development to defect resolution.

Responsibilities

● Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor QA team members, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement. Assign tasks, set priorities, and ensure team members have the resources and training to excel. Collaborate effectively with development teams, product managers, and other stakeholders. Clearly communicate QA status, risks, and issues to project stakeholders. Champion the voice of the end-user, advocating for high-quality software.

● Test Strategy & Planning: Develop comprehensive test strategies and test plans aligned with project requirements. Define clear test objectives, scope, and deliverables.

● Test Execution & Automation: Lead the execution of manual and automated tests to ensure application functionality meets expectations. Identify, document, and track defects until resolution. Maintain comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test result documentation. Plan and execute regression testing to ensure new code doesn't introduce regressions. Design and review test cases and scripts, ensuring alignment with the Firstup test pyramid. Champion test automation initiatives, implementing automated testing wherever beneficial. Oversee the creation and maintenance of automated test scripts. Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and monitor results daily.

● Defect Management: Facilitate defect triage meetings to prioritise and address issues effectively. Monitor defect trends and analyse areas for increased test coverage or product instability.

● Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities to improve QA processes and methodologies. Champion best practices and incorporate lessons learned from past projects.

Requirements
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in software testing, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Proven experience in leading and mentoring QA teams.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with manual and automated testing techniques, including API testing and exploratory testing.
  • Experience with Test Rails, Circl
  • Proficiency in Java, and test automation tools like Selenium and TestNG
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.

$130,000 - $150,000 a year
Firstup expects the base salary for this role to be between $120,000 - 150,000 (CAD). The starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, position offered, location, education, training, and/or experience.
