Responsibilities With a staff of over 200 experienced utility Commissioning Engineers and Test Technicians, TRC Field Services Team (FSV) is one of the premier national providers of Testing and Commissioning (T-C) solutions in the country. TRC FSV delivers comprehensive, cost-effective solutions to safely put your equipment in service. Our staff undergoes extensive, in-house training, ensuring efficient project start up and adherence to your individual standards and specifications. We follow well documented procedures and guidelines to ensure safe and thorough planning and testing, so you can manage risk and safeguard ongoing operations. Due to solid growth, we are seeking additionalLead Testing – Commissioning Engineerswith electrical utility testing experience to compliment and help develop our existing Teams in our Northeast Region. Responsibilities Include Day to day oversight, leadership and mentoring of Testing and Commissioning staff and providing support in areas of technical complexity Plan, coordinate, perform and document the commissioning of various utility substation protection, control and power circuits in accordance with TRC’s and Client’s requirements, budgets, schedule, and other project specific requirements and planning documents to ensure the intended operation and safety of equipment and personnel are met. Perform advanced troubleshooting and problem analysis (or the ability to learn) associated with protection and control systems and utility substation equipment, including but not limited to: Application Errors and Omissions, Drawing Errors and Omissions, Wiring Errors and Omissions, Settings Errors and Omissions, Equipment Malfunctions, Questionable Apparatus Test Results, Battery Ground Faults Participate in project meetings including kickoff, planning, progress – lessons learned meetings Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and project completion reports and documentation that includes project progress, issues or problems, recommendations, test results and analyses Lead in developing project specific testing and commissioning plans, energization plans, or any other assigned project specific documentation Identify risks and associated mitigation techniques on utility systems and equipment Develop a Site Risk Assessment to document all high-risk construction and commissioning activities and to formalize the processes of circuit isolation and restoration in a manner that ensures no unintended operations of station equipment, protection systems and personnel safety Ensure all applicable tests and/or commissioning activities are performed on every piece of equipment or system in accordance with planning and project documents. Make certain all test results are acceptable and permanently recorded, filed and distributed properly. Develop detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment. Review and approve detailed test reports of various types of electrical equipment. Serve as a primary interface with clients, other company departments, outside consultants, contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers on technically related matters Promote TRC safety and quality standards and policies and procedures while ensuring field employees are in compliance Ensure complete and accurate record keeping of all work performed Become deeply familiar with FSV drawing and document management system (ProjectWise), design standards, and as well as applicable industry codes and practices Qualifications Education and/or Experience — Bachelor of Science of Associate degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited school or University with minimum of 7+ years related electrical utility testing – commissioning experience which includes both apparatus and protective relays or 11+ years of related electrical utility testing – commissioning experience and training Demonstrated supervisory and leadership skills, the proven ability to effectively market engineering and design services outside the Company, provide excellent customer service, practice high level project management, be innovative, and maintain a high level of integrity Must have excellent verbal and written skills and be able to communicate and negotiate effectively with clients, agencies, within and outside of TRC Senior level understanding of prints, drawings, diagrams, schemes and ability to troubleshoot Professional experience in the following test processes/ procedures: Control Circuit Testing — Wire Checks/Point-to-point Verification, Functional Testing and Troubleshooting, Circuit Isolation and Restoration (Trip DC, Close DC, AC Heat and Power, Transformer Control, Alarms, SCADA, Relay I/O) CT/PT Circuit Testing – Wire Checks/Point-to-point Verification, Functional Testing and Troubleshooting, Burden, Circuit Isolation, Ratio, Polarity, Single Point Grounding, Current In-Service Checks — Energization Planning, Primary and Secondary Phasing, Voltage/ Current Magnitudes, Power Flow, Metering, Vector Diagrams Microprocessor Relays — Familiarity with Software, Settings and Logic Application and Testing (SEL, GE, ABB, ZIV, Alstom, Beckwith, NXTPhase). Perform isolation, setpoint Testing advanced logic testing, scheme testing (reclosing, breaker failure, pilot scheme, end-to-end satellite Willingness to work flexible hours, weekends, overtime holidays and nights as needed and lead by example Must be available for out-of-town travel of up to several weeks at a time if needed Must have solid computer skills with experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and above average communication skills (verbal – written) US citizenship or U.S. permanent resident status required Valid driver’s license issued by US state of residence in good standing Physical Demands — The physical demands including ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds of test equipment and as described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
