Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Law Clerk - Estates & Real Estate role located in Peterborough, ON. The Law Clerk - Estates & Real Estate will be responsible for assisting lawyers with drafting legal documents, conducting legal research, communicating with clients, and maintaining client files. The Law Clerk - Estates & Real Estate will also be responsible for assisting in the management of estates, including the preparation of estate court application and estate planning documents.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Law and Legal Document Preparation
  • Excellent Communication and Writing skills
  • Experience in conducting Legal Research
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Experience in estate planning and knowledge of estate administration is a plus
  • A strong candidate will be detail-oriented, able to multitask, and able to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Commitment to environmental stewardship within the scope of the office.
  • Creates a welcoming environment by greeting guests, answering phone calls, directing visitors, and taking messages for employees;
  • Takes customer complaints or issues and pass them on to the appropriate parties;
  • Coordinates the booking and setting up of meetings rooms;
  • Organizes and files company documents either electronically or with a paper filing system;
  • Provides support for teams when necessary;
  • Communicating with clients, accountants, etc.;
  • Perform corporate legal assistant duties for three or more timekeepers;
  • Create and revise documents from handwritten, typed, or electronic copy;
  • Practice effective communications by appearing professional and capable to clients and attorneys;
  • Recording of transactions;
  • Disseminating reports to staff;
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Professional Skills/Knowledge:

  • 2 years’ experience in a similar position preferred but willing to train;
  • Software: Cosmolex, Microsoft, G- Suite
  • College diploma or university degree in Law Clerk or Paralegal Studies is preferred
