Irving Shipbuilding Inc. is seeking a Labour Relations Specialist.

This is a permanent full-time role based in Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. Qualifications:

o Bachelor's Degree in a Related Field/ Labour Relations/ Human Resources/ Law.

o CPHR Designation and/or Masters of Industrial Relations preferred. 

o 7+ years' progressive experience in Labour Relations.

o 3+ years' experience partnering with senior level executives to advise on Labour relations matters.

o Experience working in an industrial, mechanical, manufacturing or shipbuilding environment.

· Exceptional communication skills (both oral and written) and relationship building, including the demonstrated ability to handle challenging conversations as well as highly developed interpersonal skills necessary for effective mediations and conflict resolution.

· Problem solving skills and ability to lead and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

· Demonstrated ability to administer the terms of collective agreements, work with Union representatives, resolve grievances, create win-win resolutions, mediate, resolve workplace conflicts, conduct complex workplace investigations, and prepare matters for arbitration.

· Ability to drive business results using metrics and data. 

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). 

Key Responsibilities:

· Manage the terms of our Collective Agreements and advise, coach, and counsel our people leaders to ensure effective outcomes under the terms of the Collective Agreement.

· Work with our union representatives to address workplace issues and jointly pursue new opportunities to develop and coach our workforce.

· Manage and collaborate with people leaders on probationary employee review process for trades team members.

· Collaborate and manage the grievance process and resolve issues to enhance our workplace culture; Participate in arbitrations and other dispute resolution processes or statutory processes.

· Provide support and coaching to colleagues leading our workplace programs such as attendance management and ensure compliance with all our workplace policies and procedures.

· Investigate and coach people leaders on administering corrective action where necessary through the progressive discipline process.

· Independently conduct complex workplace investigations and mediations ensuring that proper documentation and reporting are occurring.

· Negotiate, with minimal oversight, grievance resolutions, letters of agreement and other Labour disputes.

· Effectively draft corrective action letters, workplace agreements, grievance resolutions, and other related correspondence.

· Provide Labour relations, collective agreement and other training and coaching to all workplace parties to maintain a harmonious work environment.

· Collaborate on Labour relations initiatives, project work and collective bargaining.

· Contribute to Labour Relations data management processes and analyze information, metrics, terms of the collective agreement, and trends to recommend and implement risk mitigation strategies; lead departmental process improvement initiatives.
