About us

Myo Palate is a biotechnology company developing sustainable meat products. We nurture cells to make meat, instead of growing the entire animal.

We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to contribute to our success by supporting our researchers at all levels by maintaining stem cell cultures, ordering and managing inventories of lab supplies, coordinating equipment maintenance and installation, providing safety and technical training, and contributing to continuous improvements in laboratory practices and protocols. A significant requirement for this position is to maintain lab operations during weekends . This position will have a shifted schedule that covers weekends.

The successful candidate will be detail oriented, dedicated, and passionate about their work. The position will also require proper documentation of the results, being well organized and flexibility in working with other members of the team.

Note: This position is funded by a government program and requires candidates to be under the age of 30.

Position: Research Technician - Stem Cell

Salary: 50-60k CAD (adjusted based on experience and qualifications)

Ideal Start Date: July 1, 2024

Application: rolling

Status: 6-month internship with the consideration to continue with full-time employment

Schedule: Shifted work schedule to include weekends

Responsibilities

  • Routinely handle mammalian cell cultures including stable cell line maintenance, transient transfections, freezing and thawing cells;
  • Maintain cell stocks and freezer inventories;
  • Prepare, label and make aliquots of common lab reagents;
  • Keep laboratory records and generate experiment reports;
  • Collect samples and perform basic molecular characterization (e.g., DNA Extraction, PCR).
  • Adhere to all applicable SOP’s, safety and good laboratory practices;
  • Collaborate with senior scientists on assay development, cell biology;

Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience in biological laboratory work including mammalian cell culture;
  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences, cell biology, biotechnology, or a related field;
  • Able to learn hands-on biology laboratory techniques;
  • Collaborative and willing to work closely with other members of the research team;
  • A high degree of motivation, reliability, and independence;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Competency in written and verbal communication;
  • Ability to work on weekends
