The Opportunity:

McElhanney has a unique opportunity for a Junior or Intermediate Civil Engineer to join our team in Kelowna, Vernon or Salmon Arm, BC. Not only is this an amazing opportunity for you to step into a key role that will help you take your career to the next level, but you will also work with bright, engineers who are fully capable of supporting you from design to construction. In this role, your primary responsibilities are to assist or lead diverse civil projects, provide detailed design support in production of engineering designs, drawings, and specifications, and assist in pursuit, project management, proposal and delivery of local and regional projects. Working closely with our Division Manager and operational teams, the successful candidate can rely on a very capable and established senior engineering team of multidisciplinary projects.

The salary range for this role is $70,000-$106,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Provide detailed production of engineering assessments, designs, drawings and specifications for various municipal and private land development civil projects.
    • Design opportunities include water and wastewater infrastructure, stormwater management, transportation, grading and drainage design, and site servicing.
  • Work from preliminary concepts and sketches into engineering designs, plans and project informational requirements, using Civil 3D, as well as other technical software as needed.
  • Coordinate and assist in the preparation of documents required for approvals, prepare development and construction cost estimates, tender documents and contracts, and coordinate with other team members to ensure schedules, budgets and quality control standards are achieved.
  • Complete field inspections to monitor the quality and progress of the work being performed.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution
    • Engineer -In-Training (EIT) with a minimum of 4 years of experience and registered with EGBC
    • P. Eng with a minimum of 5 years of experience
  • Registration in good standing as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) in British Columbia, or eligibility to be registered. If the successful candidate is an EIT, they will be directly supervised by a professional (P.Eng.) registered in BC.
  • Proficiency in the application of AutoCAD Civil 3D is required
  • Experience with project management is required
  • Experience using water, sanitary and stormwater models an asset, but not required
  • High productivity, strong attention to detail, and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative, team environment.
