As a Junior Civil Engineering Technologist, you will join our London, Ontario office as part of our Eastern Surface Water Team. The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of engineering and restoration projects with responsibilities as follows:

  • Active participation in maintaining Matrix’s strong safety culture

  • Complete inspections on construction projects, including compilation of regular inspection reports and photo logs

  • Act as the primary “field” point of contact for various construction projects.

  • Occasional environmental monitoring, groundwater/soil sampling field work

  • Advise construction personnel on major decisions such courses of action to deal with unexpected environmental and construction conditions

  • Support tender document preparation for municipal construction projects

  • Conduct topographic surveys for design and assessment projects

  • Coordinate with clients and subcontractors on-site

  • Complete topographic surveys and as-built surveys

  • Drafting and design support using AutoCAD Civil 3D software to create base plans from field surveys

  • Assist in the preparation of proposals and technical reports, technical specifications for engineering designs and cost estimates

  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals on a variety of projects such as watercourse construction, civil servicing, and restoration and ecology projects.

What We Are Looking For

  • College diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent

  • Professional Designation of (C.Tech, CET) or ability to obtain designation within 2 years,

  • Previous experience in a consulting, municipal or a construction work environment is considered an asset

  • An ability to understand civil engineering drawings and interpret the designs on site.

  • An ability to build positive relationships with contractors, clients, and other project stakeholders.

  • A high degree of attention to detail and an ability to problem-solve.

  • Willingness to travel and work in urban and remote locations across Ontario

  • Experience using survey equipment such as high precision GPS units, Total Stations and UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles)

  • Ability and experience working within a construction site around heavy equipment

  • Being a Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CAN-CISEC) or future eligibility is considered an asset.

  • Previous experience using GIS Software programs (i.e. ArcGIS or QGIS) and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D software programs

  • Service-oriented with strong time management skills

  • Experience with environmental monitoring, groundwater/ soil sampling is considered an asset.

  • A boating license and experience operating and working within a boat is considered an asset.

  • Must be comfortable working in and around water and in all weather conditions

  • Proficient technical writing skills and ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawingsA valid and clean driver’s license with no restrictions
