The Opportunity: McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Civil Designer to join our Calgary branch with a focus on supporting Transportation Infrastructure Engineering projects while also supporting our Municipal and Energy/Resources teams. We are seeking strong communicators with excellent design skills and experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D and associated design packages. Our transportation projects include various rural and urban road improvement projects, bridge and bridge-sized culvert replacement and rehabilitations. The successful candidate will use their strong technical skills on a variety of design projects. What You’ll Be Doing: Contribute to the cost effective and timely production of engineering designs, including roadways, drainage and utilities that meet all client and approval agency requirements and standards Transform bridge, culvert and road preliminary concepts and sketches into engineering designs, plans and project informational requirements, using primarily AutoCAD / Civil 3D, as well as other technical software as needed Coordinate and/or complete the preparation of documents required for approvals and assist with development of construction cost estimates, tender documents and contracts Collaborate with team members to ensure schedules, budgets and quality control standards are achieved Identify field and design issues and facilitate corrective measures, think independently. What You’ll Bring: Degree / Diploma in Civil Engineering or Design Drafting Technology from an accredited university or college Proficiency in drafting using Autocad civil 3D software. Experience with Infraworks and / or other CAD / Mapping / GIS software is an asset Highly proficient in the application of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project) Knowledge of Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors Engineering drafting guidelines for highway and bridge projects, City of Calgary standards and/or other municipal standards Currently registered, or qualified to register as a Technician / Technologist with ASET or registered or qualified to register as an Engineer-in-Training with APEGA Attention to detail and excellent communication skills (verbal and written) Strong people skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse individuals in a team environment Ability to work independently and also within a busy and high-performing team Why Youll Love Working with Us: The salary range for this position is $58,000 to $87,000. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting.
