As the regulator of Nova Scotia’s legal profession, the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society exists to uphold and protect the public interest in the practice of law. The Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society oversees clerks’ and lawyers’ accreditation with their admissions and licensing process, establishes ethical standards, ensures the professional responsibility of lawyers, and strives to improve the administration of justice. The Society proactively works to create a legal profession that broadly reflects the diverse public it serves. Please note this is a contract position for two years.What you’ll be doing:Reporting to the Director, Finance and Administration, the IT Manager is responsible for the oversight and planning for the Society’s various technology and information systems. You’ll have the opportunity to lead multiple IT projects, including:Manage the transition and migration from on-premises servers to cloud-based applicationsProvide IT support for implementing a major new member management/CRM system, including a SharePoint document repositoryDevelop information technology policies, emergency response plans and cybersecurity response plans for the organizationReview the current systems, applications, and infrastructure, make recommendations, and implement a strategy to upgrade and improve systemsOversee cybersecurity initiatives to safeguard the company’s digital assets, data, and information systems, ensuring a resilient and secure environment against cyber threats and vulnerabilitiesThe IT Manager participates in all projects and reviews regarding the Society’s information systems and policies. You will also:Develop and implement an IT strategy aligned with organizational goalsManage technology infrastructure, software and end-user hardwareOversee ongoing monitoring of current and emerging threats, risk mitigation, and privacy policy alignmentLead disaster recovery and security breach response planning, including regular system updates, staff training, and adequate backups.Conduct research, selection, and implementation of new systems, technologies and vendorsOversee essential infrastructure including servers, operating systems, cloud-based systems, end-user equipment and software are effectively managed and maintainedEnsure there is effective and proactive monitoring and maintenance of network and systemsContribute to establishing and managing the budget for technology spendingOversee and determine timeframes for major IT projects including new implementations, system updates, upgrades, migrations and outagesManage performance of the Network and systems administrator, setting goals, objectives, and priorities together with the means for monitoring them and managing individual performanceWhat we are looking for:Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in information technology, or equivalent combination of experience and educationFive or more years of experience in IT managementDeep knowledge of network administration, system administration, cybersecurity and current equipment and technologiesExpertise in implementing, configuring, and testing IT solutionsExcellent problem-solving abilities and the ability to keep projects on track and adapt to changing conditionsWhat’s in it for you:Opportunity – Your ideas and new approaches are valued as The Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society transitions to the cloud and emphasizes evolving cybersecurity needs and project work. Impact – Within a lean but mighty team, you’ll have ownership of IT processes and ensure seamless technology operations for everyone.
