Intermediate Mechanical Designer (MEP)

Reinbold Engineering Group is a national mechanical engineering firm with offices located in Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, Edmonton and Kelowna. Our company specializes in the design of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems in commercial, healthcare, institutional, residential and mixed-use high-rise projects. Currently, we are seeking Intermediate Mechanical Designer for our Edmonton office as we are expanding and growing. Job Description
  • Able to work independently on specified scopes with minimal supervision required.
  • Increased leadership responsibilities, providing coaching and delegating some design tasks to various individuals depending upon the individual’s aptitude.
  • Mentor and supervise Mechanical Designers and review their work prior to submitting to Senior Mechanical Designer, Senior Mechanical Engineers or Project Manager.
  • Placing and sizing of distribution systems and equipment following industry standards and
  • Reinbold Design Standards and Guidelines.
  • Perform load calculations using company provided software.
  • Selection of mechanical equipment working directly with suppliers and manufacturer’s representatives.
  • Preparation of schematic design, design development and construction documents in either AutoCAD or REVIT and adhere to Reinbold Design Standards and Guidelines.
  • Review your own work for errors and omissions prior to having supervisors review the work. Use the project review checklist and clash detection software to assist in your review for all projects.
  • Assist with the preparation of drawing and book specifications.
  • Coordination of mechanical systems and design with other disciplines.
  • Identify and address the need for additional services and fees to project managers in a timely fashion.
  • Assist with Contract Administration including shop drawing review, RFI responses and on-site review.
  • May attend design and construction meetings with the client, other consultants and the contractors.
  • Maintain project schedules and project budgets to track work progress and manpower resource utilization with assistance from the Project Manager.
  • Strive to accomplish company goals of high-quality workmanship and project timelines through the continual improvement of workflows and design standards.

Experience & Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Technologist
  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in mechanical HVAC and Plumbing design is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including plumbing, HVAC, heating, cooling, air handlers, and fire protection. Ability to interpret construction drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of current codes and standards such as the local plumbing and local building codes.
  • Strong understanding of Reinbold design and documentation standards.
  • Understanding of the principals behind building heating and cooling load calculations.
  • Understanding of software programs (Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, REVIT, etc.).
