Summary of Position:
Our client is looking for a full-time Intermediate Interior Designer with 5–9 years of experience working in the interior design industry or integrated projects. The desired candidate will have experience leading various phases of interior design projects and / or integrated design projects with oversight from a Senior Designer and/or Project Lead and will provide support as required. This individual will coordinate directly with the Client, Consultants, Contractors, and representatives from Public Authorities. Work may be associated with project tasks for mid to large scale projects. The intermediate interior designer is expected to work in collaboration with all project team members, consultants and vendors.
Role Responsibilities:
Conducts/oversees and conducts site verifications and gathers space inventory data
Prepares/oversees programming analysis and leads client interviews
Develops/oversees space planning and code studies
Develops/oversees design concepts, presentations, and presentation materials
Develops/oversees the selection of materials and finishes and sample boards
Develops/oversees furnishing selections and the preparation of furnishings documentation
Prepares/oversees contract documents and specifications
Coordinates with Consultants and Vendors
Preparation/review/oversight of construction administration documentation and attends site walkthroughs
Leads client meetings, participate as required and prepares meeting minutes
Establishes and maintains project schedules, workplans and EVA’s
Assist/Prepares client fee letters, schedules, and reviews client invoicing
Schedules work assignments, setting priorities and delegating work accordingly
Confirms supporting project team members understanding of tasks including expected timeline of deliverables and how long they should take to complete to ensure workplan/fees are on track
Provides guidance to junior staff for completion of contract documents
Provides support to design staff during all phases of a project
Works independently on small to mid-scale projects with minimal support
Able to work on multiple projects
Able to take on a Project Manager Role on small to mid-scaled interior design/integrated projects through all phases of work
Keeps project manager and/or client informed of progress and issues as they arise
Keeps Departmental and Project Leads apprised of task progress and issues as they arise
Mentor and facilitate development of junior interior design staff
May be required to provide support or assist with various tasks at various skills levels as may be required for project and / or firm success
Qualifications:
5–9 years of experience in the interior design industry, or integrated projects
Bachelor’s degree or diploma from CIDA accredited post-secondary institute
Provincial Intern Interior Designer (or in progress) is an asset
NCIDQ – IDFX and IDPX practicum exams (or in progress) is an asset
IDA/IDC Intern Member (or in progress) is an asset
LEED/WELL Accredited is an asset
Advanced understanding of building codes, bylaws and municipal processes
Knowledge of design and construction process as well as building components, construction methods and sequencing
Strong ability to put together complete construction document packages
Advanced knowledge on finish specifications and materials applications
Skilled in graphic/visualization & hand sketching
High proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, MS Office Suite, InDesign, Sketch-Up, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat & Bluebeam Studio
