Our team is seeking an experienced Intermediate Environmental Scientist in Alberta who is a self-starter and has demonstrated success in conducting assessment, remediation and/or reclamation services to various clients. We are looking for a team player that has a keen enthusiasm for the environment and land industry. The successful candidate will immediately participate in the environmental Site Assessment and Reclamation group on new projects, as well as provide support on current Evolve work.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for leading and conducting assessment, remediation and/or reclamation services for clients, as determined by the Site Assessment and Reclamation Manager. This role will be responsible to supervise and support Junior Environmental Scientists. An Intermediate Environmental Scientistorganizes, conducts, supervises, and reports on environmental projects, including but not limited to, Site Assessments; sampling of project areas; reclamation; and conveys results to appropriate internal and external project stakeholders. Works in compliance with established organization Health and Safety protocols and relevant Environmental Regulations and Legislation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. TECHNICAL:

  • Contributes to effective project problem solving and decision making of remediation and reclamation options by conducting Site Assessments (e.g. Phase I or II Environmental Site Assessments, Detailed Site Assessments).
  • Determines properties of vegetation, soil, and water by conducting vegetation, soil, and water inspections/assessments and/or sampling.
  • Completes reclamation tasks, such as but not limited to, vegetation management, seeding, monitoring. Utilization of reclamation equipment as required based on training and skill.
  • Organize, supervise and direct third-party contractors, as required, with respect to environmental site work.
  • Documents field observations and collected data by completing accurate, neat and thorough field notes.
  • Preserves samples for testing by ensuring use of proper handling methods.
  • Ascertains client and contractor compliance with federal and provincial regulations as well as project specific permits by conducting Environmental Investigations.
  • Mitigates effects of contaminant spills by performing release response services.
  • Regularly communicates with supervisors both in the field and in the office.
  • Minimizes health and safety risks and contributes to protecting personnel by assisting with corporate and client safety programs, participating in regular safety meetings, reporting hazards, incidents, and accidents, and holding on-site safety meetings and hazard assessments.

II. ADMINISTRATION:

  • Conveys field and desktop Site Assessment and/or project results through accurate and detailed field notes, checklists, applications and/or technical reports as required (e.g. Assessment Reports, Regulatory Closure Applications).
  • Promotes safety compliance of departmental work by completing safety forms in relation to projects involved in (e.g. risk assessment forms).
  • Records time and duties within appropriate software daily (e.g. BigTime).

III. OTHER ASSIGNMENTS, PROJECTS, AND DUTIES AS REQUIRED:

  • Clarifies and ensures project requirements and timelines are met by participating in regular team meetings and discussions.
  • Communicates with clients and contractors, and supervises on-site contractors as required.
  • Supports overall team objectives by assisting with other environmental service line projects as required.

What we require...

  • Minimum 3 years of environmental work, preferably in the Oil and gas sector.
  • Degree or diploma in an environmental science related field; biology; agriculture;...etc.
  • Registered or able to register as a “professional” or “professional in training” with the professional organization related to their education in either Alberta or Saskatchewan.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving abstract.
  • Professionalism in handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Comfortable and competent with technology-based update, reporting and project management systems (ie. project tracking, spreadsheets, emails etc.).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
