The Opportunity:
Our client is looking for a
Commercial Automobile Underwriter
with a strong understanding of individually rated commercial automobile policies.
The role is 100% remote, however, there is a requirement to visit broker’s offices within Alberta, therefore the position should be held within or close to Calgary or Edmonton.
The Intermediate Underwriter, Commercial Auto (non-fleet) is tasked with assessing, pricing, and accepting risks in line with company guidelines and objectives, ensuring compliance with underwriting and customer service standards. Responsibilities include evaluating, selecting, negotiating, and pricing policies to maintain a profitable portfolio. The role involves data entry, reviewing endorsements, renewals, and cancellations, and analyzing new business for risk profitability. The underwriter works within assigned authority levels, develops and maintains relationships with brokers and customers, conducts broker visits, and stays informed on industry trends and regulatory changes. The role also includes collaborating on business retention, investigating customer risk factors, communicating underwriting philosophy to brokers, ensuring compliance with best business practices, and participating in special projects and assignments.

About You:
You are a self-motived individual with the following requirements:
Post-secondary education and/or equivalent on-the-job experience
Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in commercial auto underwriting
Working knowledge of underwriting techniques, guidelines, rating programs, risk information sources, coverages, underwriting/technical manual information, statutory constraints, and computer workflow procedures
Valid driver's license (Class 5)
Proficient in Outlook, Word, and Excel
Knowledge of Guidewire, RTM, Passport is an asset
CIP designation or working towards completing CIP courses
Performs well in a busy and dynamic environment
Team player adaptable to a changing environment
Focus on broker and customer needs, ensuring high-quality service and long-term problem-solving
Commitment to ongoing professional and technical development
Commitment to high standards of performance and achieving goals
Strong analytical and decision-making skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
