We are currently looking for an Inclusion Support Counsellors to join our team of committed professionals. These full-time summer contract positions within the Association are housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’sChippewa andTillicum locations inNorth Bay.

Under the leadership of the Supervisor of Recreational Programming and/or the Site Director the Inclusion Support Counsellor will work with campers, their families and support systems to ensure the camper is having a positive camp experience. The Inclusion Support Counsellor will focus on inclusivity and positive behaviour management of the camper/participant. The Inclusion Support Counsellor will work with the camper and the day camp staff to develop independent learning plans as needed. This position will also provide support and coaching to staff and volunteers within the overnight and day camp programs and ensures program excellence.

LOCATION: North Bay, ON

RATE OF PAY: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour

Major Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the support of staff and campers in the day camp and overnight program
  • Assists with mentoring of day camp staff and volunteers
  • Provide training in behaviour management
  • Develop Independent Learning Plans as needed for campers
  • Manage camper behaviours as needed
  • Work collaboratively with Supervisor or Site Director to ensure safety and training needs are met in terms of behaviour management
  • Ensure all incident forms are filled out and filed according to YMCA procedures
  • Responsible for monitoring program registration in terms of children with identified needs
  • Responsible for facilitating the distribution of the Day Camp Parent and Staff Surveys

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certificate in Child and Youth Development, Social Work, Therapeutic Recreation, Mental Health and Addictions, or working towards obtaining any of these or related credentials *for education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES with their application
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C certification
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a similar role
  • Experience leading children’s activities and working with children with special needs
  • Experience in behaviour management
  • Positive, caring, enthusiastic, and encouraging attitude
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Solid knowledge of community resources
  • Bilingualism in both official languages an asset
  • Current and satisfactory Police Record with Vulnerable Sector Check
