Seeking a Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Director with a Vision for Safety Excellence. At Nutreco, we’re not just looking for an HSE Director; we’re searching for a safety visionary who can lead our North American operations to new heights of health, safety, and environmental stewardship.

Location: Canada (North America Business Unit). Bilingual French/English is an asset.

Scope: Steering 55 locations, including mills, barns/hatcheries, stores, and more across Canada and the USA. Willing to travel across the sites up to 50% of the time.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Leadership:

  • Inspire trust and collaboration within the HSE team and OPCOs.
  • Bridge the gap between global, regional, and local HSE efforts.
  • Lead by example, instilling a proactive safety culture.

Strategy & Policy:

  • Develop regional HSE strategies that align with global objectives.
  • Foster a robust commitment to HSE principles at all management and staff levels.
  • Oversee the implementation of HSE plans, aligned with Nutreco’s vision.

Risk Management:

  • Perform safety inspections and risk assessments with precision.
  • Maintain a comprehensive operational risk register and ensure legal compliance.

Training & Development:

  • Implement impactful training programs to raise HSE standards.
  • Provide expert HSE advice to support informed decision-making.

Systems & Reporting:

  • Manage Nutreco’s HSE management systems effectively.
  • Analyze performance data to identify areas for improvement.

Incident Management:

  • Lead critical incident investigations and crisis management.
  • Encourage knowledge sharing to improve HSE practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: BSc in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH) would be an asset.
  • Experience: At least 8 years of progressive experience in HSE roles, with a preference for candidates who have worked in a regional or global role, with multi-site leadership capacity.
    • Experience of Auditing ISO 14001, ISO 45001
  • Skills: Engineering or an equivalent qualification, with experience in Process Safety and operations
    • Proven leadership and team-building abilities.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficient in HSE regulatory compliance and risk management.
    • Ability to manage HSE programs across diverse locations.
    • Strong project management, change management and organisational skills
