HR Business Partner Manager (Operations)

The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves constructing and operating a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and produce approximately 2.1 million tonnes per year of LNG.

Woodfibre Management Ltd is a privately held Canadian company based in Vancouver and a subsidiary of Pacific Energy Corporation Limited.

Position

The HR Business Partner is an integral part of Woodfibre LNG’s dynamic team. You will be reporting to the VP, Human Resources, the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) will be responsible for providing Human Resources (HR) support to the Operations team and work closely with HR supporting functions. The HRPB will support the Operations leadership in setting up and developing a competent and high performing organization. In doing so, the HRBP will provide and coordinate support in all aspects of people management and HR matters, such as employee relations, workforce development, recruitment and effective implementation of corporate HR programs. This is an opportunity for an HR professional with strong interpersonal skills to join a dynamic team in a growth-oriented company. The successful candidate reports directly to VP Human Resources and will play an essential part in supporting the company’s Operations and senior management team.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

  • Collaborate with Operations leaders to understand business objectives and develop and implement people management strategies that support organizational goals.
  • Provide guidance on workforce planning, talent management, and organizational development.
  • With a focus on creating an exceptional employee experience, create, deliver, and manage various HR programs such as diversity, equity and inclusion, and employee engagement.
  • Address employee relations issues, conduct investigations, and recommend appropriate actions to maintain a positive work environment.
  • Work closely with Operations leaders to resolve employee concerns and conflicts.
  • Partner with the recruitment team to identify staffing needs for Operations.
  • Partner with corporate HR to ensure competitive remuneration and terms and conditions for Operations staff.
  • Participate in the selection process for key positions and ensure a robust onboarding process.
  • Manage performance management processes to drive high performance within the Operations team.
  • Provide coaching and support to managers in performance evaluation and feedback.
  • Identify training needs within Operations and collaborate with the Learning and Development team to implement relevant programs.
  • Support career development initiatives for Operations employees.
  • Support with the annual budget preparation and creation of monthly forecasting reports.
  • Ensure compliance with local labor laws, industry regulations, and company policies within the Operations department.
  • Partner with legal and compliance teams to address HR-related legal matters.
  • Utilize HR data and analytics to identify trends, measure HR program effectiveness, and make data-driven recommendations to enhance Operations performance.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field. Master’s degree or HR certification is a plus.
  • Proven experience as an HR Business Partner, preferably in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Strong understanding of HR best practices, labor laws, and regulations.
  • Experience in managing diverse HR functions such as planning, recruitment, performance management, professional development and training, and compensation.
  • Proven experience in developing, supporting, and implementing HR programs, policies, and processes.
  • Previous experience in setting up HR operations for a start-up operation would be an advantage.

  • As required, the position is based in Vancouver, BC, with travel to Squamish (site), the EPC contractor’s office in Houston, and others.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
