Job Description

Grey Bruce Community Legal Clinic is looking for a Staff Lawyer with a focus on Housing Law for a two-year contract.

We are located in Owen Sound, Ontario, and provide services in clinic law matters to low-income residents of Grey and Bruce Counties, including Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation.

We are seeking a clinic law lawyer to be an important part of our team. This position will focus on providing tenants legal advice and representation, law reform, community development and public education on housing law. The position will involve working with our community partners to address underlying issues related to homelessness and insufficient housing.

This two year contract will cover a lawyer who will be working on a separately funded project within the clinic. Staff are required to be vaccinated against Covid-19. Start date is approximately October 1, 2023.

Qualifications include:

  • Community Legal Clinic experience is an asset;
  • Membership in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario;
  • Commitment to social justice, working within an anti-racism and anti-oppression, client-centred, trauma-informed framework, and an understanding of issues of systemic discrimination;
  • Commitment to the delivery of high quality legal services to disadvantaged individuals and groups;
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written advocacy skills;
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team;
  • Access to a vehicle and willingness to travel throughout Grey and Bruce Counties.

Salary range: $77,000 to $83,000 based on experience, year of call and education; benefits as per the Manulife plan is included, as well Law Society fees and a generous vacation policy.
