Who We Are:

Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) has been awarded the design and early works of the Scarborough Subway Extension project. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city.


As part of the Scarborough Transit Connect project, we are looking for a qualified Health and Safety Manager to join our team.


What You Will Do:

•Assist management with the sourcing and hiring process for the Safety department.

•Provide site specific safety training and orientation to workers, owners and clients.

•Develop and train supervisors and staff on the Health and Safety Management Plan and the Site-Specific Safety Manuals.

•Review project plans and project sites before work commences, identifying safety-related risks.

•Inspect active project sites to evaluate ongoing work conditions to guarantee compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards.

•Liaise with external parties such as government inspectors, sub-contractors, and general public.

•Work with project management teams and field workers to implement and devise solutions to safety-related issues on project sites.

•Work with senior management to create plans for emergency procedures.

•Ensure subcontractors and employees comply with safety standards.

•Conduct various Hazard Identification activities with relevant members of the Operations teams.

•Represent STC at meetings with stakeholders and other organizations on issues regarding workplace health and safety matters.

•Promote at all times and in all situations, a Safety Culture that values the contributions and insights of workers, managers, and other stakeholders as essential to the prevention and resolution of health and safety issues.

•Manage a team of Health and Safety Advisors to execute the above tasks.

•Assign responsibilities to your team of Advisors and conduct Performance Management activities for them as per the processes established on the Project.

•Participate in the development of Health and Safety Policies, Procedures, Work Instructions and other documents.

•Other duties as assigned.


Experience You Will Bring:

•Minimum 5 years’ experience coordinating and managing health and safety for heavy civil infrastructure projects.

•Knowledge of Construction projects with a solid understanding of the Occupation Health and Safety Act (“OHSA”).

•Bachelor’s degree, Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), and Certificate of Recognition (COR) Auditor.

•National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) is required.

•Background in Training and/or Education and or experience delivering EHS Training programs to individuals and groups.

•Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

•Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy; excellent verbal and written communication skills.

•Experience in working on heavy civil infrastructure projects, specifically Light Rail (LRT) and railways.

•Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

•Excellent meeting and training facilitation.

•Understanding of the Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration System.

•Understanding of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board System (WSIB) and return to work program.

•Adaptable and flexible to an ever-changing environment.

•Valid driver’s license with good driving record and the ability to drive to job sites.
