Job Description

Health and Safety Supervisor in Port Hope, Canada. Hourly Rate: $35-$45Inc Duration: 3 Months Location: Port Hope Ontario Hours: 40 - 50 hours per weekThis field position is primarily responsible for coordinating compliance with health and safety requirements on construction and environmental projects as defined by Company standards, governmental regulations, and contractual obligations. This position may oversee loss prevention in concurrent projects or projects of a complex nature. In this position, you will: Coordinate the implementation of Accident Prevention Plans (APP)Actively promote and support the health and safety programs at project sitesOversee the completion of Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) preparation and acceptanceAs directed, lead health and safety training for Company staff, subcontractors, and any parties required to participate to ensure achievement of exceptional health & safety standards including participating in developing training contentAuthor health and safety related documentation (reports, logs, and records), completing required information for daily reports and client communications in a timely and accurate mannerEnsure that all documentation is organized and uploaded to the project portalProvide guidance to subcontractors, clients, and project team members to ensure that project activities are completed according to applicable health and safety plan(s)Conduct regular inspections to assess health and safety plan adherence as well as identify potential loss and riskTake appropriate actions to prevent loss and mitigate risk in accordance to Company standards and practicesEnsure that deficiencies are corrected in a timely manner and to acceptable measuresRepresent the Company in a positive and professional manner in client and regulatory agency interactions.Report health and safety incidents to the Company Incident DatabaseConduct related investigations thoroughly, completing associated documentation accurately.Communicate and document corrective actionsVerify implementation of corrective action, track and analyze corrective action, and close-out corrective action documentation upon acceptable completionSupervisor and mentor Health & Safety TechniciansReview of qualifications of subcontractorsCollaborate with Quality Control counterparts to ensure coordination between areas of responsibilityIn addition to the accountabilities above, other responsibilities, tasks, and deliverables may be assigned to the incumbent of this position RequirementsThe ability to communicate in written and oral formats with diplomacy and tactAn aptitude for exercising independent thinking and reasoningDemonstrated success in teaching others health and safety concepts and requirementsSuccessful track record in effectively engaging with subcontractorsCompetent in using Microsoft Office products, email systems, and WindowsThree years of progressive work experience in a position directly related to health and safetyEducation: A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Health & Safety or related field is required. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for this requirement.Effective immediately, we will require all newly-hired employees in the US to be vaccinated for COVID-19 to the extent allowable by state laws.Preferred QualificationsPrevious success in working effectively in a dotted line reporting structureHands-on experience in industrial hygiene monitoring and use of hazardous work permitsExperience on environmental remediation projectsExperience with radiationHAZWOPER 40 Hour Certification and 8 Hour Refresher CertificationHAZWOPER Supervisor CertificationQualifications: The candidate will be required to have at least one of the following certifications. National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO)Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST)Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).
