Position Description

OVERVIEW
The Cypress Grove Academy Head of School will lead under the direction and guidance of the CGA Board of Directors and will function as a direct report to the board. He or she will warmly display a zeal for learning, a passion for the gospel, and will cultivate relationships with staff, parents, families, and students of CGA. The Head of School will lead gently and courageously in fulfilling the school’s mission and goals. He or she will support faculty in creating an atmosphere that inspires wonder, aiming to develop a lifelong love of learning. He or she will shepherd students by helping them to order their loves toward the true, the good, and the beautiful in obedience to Christ, encouraging them to cultivate the gifts that God has given them in service of one another and our community.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Educational Leader

● Recruit, train, coach, evaluate, and retain faculty and staff whose philosophies and capabilities match those of the school.
● Oversee review implementation of the curriculum.
● Implement strategies for establishing a safe and orderly environment.
● Teach in the classroom as determined by need.
● Provide formal leadership for all staff, faculty, and administrative positions.

Christian Leadership
● Promote a warm, Christ-centered atmosphere within CGA.
● Implement regular faculty meetings in such a way that teachers are equipped to offer a truly classical Christian education and encouraged to continue in their own spiritual growth and maturity.
● Espouse to and model in the school community the CGA Statement of Faith and Statement of marriage and sexuality.

Communication
● Describe CGA’s mission, vision, and philosophy in an engaging, enthusiastic manner both inside and outside of the school community.
● Provide strong, collaborative leadership to ensure consensus on future direction.
● Plan and execute Preview Days, tours and interviews with prospective families.
● Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents concerning students’ academic, social, and behavioral progress.
● Lead, support, and encourage staff, especially teachers, in carrying out their responsibilities.
● Implement all Board policies independently and confidently.
● Serve as an ex officio Board member, appearing at all Board meetings.
● Along with the School Administrator, submit for approval to the Board recommendations concerning teacher and student dismissals, annual budgets, tuition and fees, and policy manuals.

Culture Building
● Foster a winsome, gospel-centered environment.
● Foster a joy-filled learning environment that positively reinforces a strong work ethic and rigorous academic standards as a means and not the end in themselves.
● Oversee all administrative, academic, extra-curricular, and student programs to achieve a complete classical Christian education experience that seeks to form the whole person and not just the mind.

Administration
● Conduct regular meetings with administrative staff to align necessary planning and responsibilities.
● Work with the administrative team to update and develop handbooks, discipline policy, etc.
● Interact with the host church regarding day-to-day operational items and facility maintenance.
● Ensure compliance with relevant local, state, and federal guidelines, particularly as it pertains to our students’ status as homeschoolers.
● In collaboration with the Board, oversee the accreditation process when the time comes.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Professional
The Head of School:
● Loves teaching and discipling children. Students are drawn to him or her.
● Has experience in Classical Christian school teaching and preferably, administration. Has demonstrated skill as a supervisory leader and with human resource management.
● Has experience with Classical Christian curriculum and pedagogy and the ability to ensure that an excellent classical education is being offered with consistency in grades K-12.
● Has experience with fundraising.
● Has at least a Bachelor’s Degree.

Spiritual

The Head of School:
● Publicly professes belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and lives a life that reflects maturity and intimacy with God. Is an active member of a local church.
● Is a servant-leader whose conduct exemplifies Biblical principles.
● Has genuine excitement and passion about Christian leadership.

Personal and General

The Head of School:
● Is an excellent communicator, both verbally and as a writer.
● Has enthusiasm for and appreciation of the school’s mission.
● Has strong interpersonal skills. People are naturally drawn to and feel seen and known by this person.
● Is able to build a team and lead it effectively.
● Is able to mentor and coach others.
● Has a professional yet warm demeanor with an ability to develop partnerships with parents, staff, and community.

WORK YEAR

This position is full time, 12 months a year. 35 week academic calendar. Reduced summer hours.
