Job Description

A company is looking to add a Head of Finance to provide management expertise and lead day-to-day operations of all finance and accounting-related activities. As a key strategic contributor, the Head of Finance will work closely with the CEO and Executive team to develop defensible financial plans, processes and growth strategies to ensure the company is capable of achieving itslong-term goals.

What does the Finance team look like?

The Finance team is responsible for managing all financial operations from accounting, to financial planning, and investor relations management. This team plays a crucial role in ensuring the company remains financially robust by providing insights to make strategic company-wide decisions.

What you’ll get up to

You will be responsible for the overall direction and control of the company’s Finance function, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting strategic decision-making.

Day-to-Day Operations

  1. Manage outsourced bookkeeper to ensure timely monthly and annual closing cycles.
  2. Develop processes and internal controls to ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax laws (US & CAN), and other regulatory requirements.
  3. Develop accounting processes and procedures around company spending (i.e. purchases, payments, expense reimbursements etc.).
  4. Ensure day-to-day transactions are performed in an accurate manner including but not limited to reconciling balances, AP/AR, payroll, and client billings.
  5. Managing general business requirements including selecting business insurance plans.

Strategic Financial Leadership and Financial Planning & Analysis

  1. Provide metrics, models, and insights to support sound decision-making and business planning.
  2. Conduct financial analysis to identify opportunities for revenue growth, their financial viability, and impact on the business and monitor these forecasts against the actuals.
  3. Build and maintain a bottom-up financial model for the purposes of forecasting spend, strategic planning, and lead annual budgeting activities alongside the CEO & COO.
  4. Collaborate with leaders across the business to drive financial performance, cost efficiency, and revenue growth.
  5. Support in formalizing the company’s compensation structure including processes related to performance-based increases and sales performance/commission pay out.

People Management

  1. Coach and develop the Finance team which includes setting performance expectations and identifying when performance improvement plans are needed.
  2. Actively participate in talent acquisition activities. This includes identifying hiring needs and overseeing the recruitment process to attract, hire, and onboard high-quality talent.
  3. Foster cross-functional collaboration and communication to achieve the company’s OKRs.

Investor Relation Management

  1. Support the CEO in updating the company’s valuation as necessitated by significant financial events and manage the company’s cap table through Pulley.
  2. Deliver monthly updates to investors and prepare deeper financial analysis with commentary on performance for quarterly Board meetings.

What you need to be successful in this role

  1. Prior leadership and strategic finance experience– The company has tremendous growth ahead and is looking for a leader with experience scaling up companies of similar size through a financial lens. You must have experience leading and executing strategy, and working with other executive teams to chart future growth.
  2. Functional experience–CPA/CMA designation and demonstrated expertise in FP&A and modelling is a must.
  3. Relationship management– You have experience managing outsourced partners, presenting to the Board of Directors and Senior Leaders, as well as partnering with department heads with varying levels of financial expertise.

Nice to haves

Previous experience owning system migration, overseeing financial operations across multiple countries (the company operates in Canada & USA), or specialized knowledge in RevOps and Data Ops is a plus.
