About Covalent

Covalent Blockchain data is purported to be public, but deep, granular, and historical blockchain data is still almost impossible to access. Covalent is on a mission to bring full transparency and visibility to all blockchain networks, and we are looking for an experienced Head of Blockchain API Engineering to help us scale. Reporting directly to the CTO, we seek someone who is entrepreneurial, self-directed, result-driven, and enthusiastic about blockchain technologies. This is an opportunity to join a fast-moving scale-up working with cutting-edge technology. The successful candidate would be joining at a pivotal moment in the firm's history, with the capacity for high impact at Covalent.

Role Overview

As the Head of API Engineering, you will be at the forefront of our technological innovation, primarily focusing on our API offerings. This role combines deep technical expertise with senior management skills. The expected salary range for Canadian applicants for similar roles within Covalent is CAD 150,000 to CAD 180,000.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and oversee a comprehensive API strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with the company’s vision.
  2. Oversee the design, development, and implementation of robust and scalable API infrastructure, ensuring alignment with business requirements, security standards, and the industry’s best practices.
  3. Establish and maintain efficient and reliable API technology operations.
  4. Collaborating closely with executive leadership, product team, and stakeholders to understand customer needs and drive technology-enabled business initiatives.
  5. Identify and mitigate technology-related risks, ensuring data privacy and security.
  6. Lead, mentor, and expand a high-performing API engineering team.
  7. Stay aware of the latest tech advancements to provide strategic insights and recommendations for maintaining our technological edge.
  8. Manage the technology budget, optimizing resource allocation and ensuring cost-effective solutions.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. Ten (10) or more years of experience in software engineering, design and architecture experience; 5 or more years specifically related to APIs and Blockchain. Deep understanding of blockchain transaction lifecycles, token standards like ERC20, ERC721, ERC1155, Account Abstraction, Transaction Traces, and EVM internals. Five (5) or more years of experience leading and managing engineering teams Strong strategic thinking and the ability to translate business objectives into effective technology strategies. Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale technology projects, delivering results on time and within budget. Proven ability to navigate complex technology landscapes to drive digital transformation initiatives. Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to various audiences. Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop high-performing technology teams. Committed to staying at the forefront of industry developments. Expert knowledge of APIs, data structures, and programming languages such as Python, Java, and SQL.
