The Role Douglas College Athletics invites fully qualified candidates to apply for this Head Athletic Therapist, Full-Time, Contract Position. Reporting to the Manager, Athletics & Recreation Operations, the Head Athletic Therapist (AT) is responsible for the development,coordination and delivery of a comprehensive sports medical and physical wellness program for the Royals varsity sports teams. The AT will perform professional and administrative services essential for the successful implementation and compliance of the College safety policies and department procedures Responsibilities Develop overall athletic therapy program for the Athletics varsity sports, including: injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and injury management guidance for student-athletes; Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principals of over the student-athletes’ life span, and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the student-athletes’ status and interpret the appropriate information and course of action; Provide athletic therapy services for the athletic department, including attendance at scheduled team practices, and at home and away competitions as required; Provide input to the Director, Athletics and Recreation in the forecasting of theAthletic Therapy supplies budget; Conduct pre-season physical wellness and sport specific assessments, i.e. baseline concussion tests, assessing medical history, including related health and safety requirements; Provides recordkeeping and documentation to provide historical information on student-athletes; Maintains injury data information in proper order and reported in pre-assigned time frame. Ensures the confidentiality of student-athlete health and medical information; Schedules student-athlete treatment and/or other intervention as necessary; Demonstrate proper athletic therapy techniques; i.e. tapping, cupping, strapping, bracing, etc, including fitting of athletic equipment; Support the coordination and scheduling of physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete; Work in conjunction with the Strength and Conditioning Coach and Athletics staff to ensure physical wellness safety of student-athletes; Responsible for the formation of the Student Athletic Trainer (Student ATs) mentor program, including onboarding, training, monitoring and providing direction; Schedule and coordinate Student Athletic Trainer (Student ATs) for coverage of all team practices and athletic competitions, as needed; Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the athletic therapy program; Maintains awareness of the College’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)and Policies and procedures; Attends department meetings as required; Communicates reports in a concise, informative manner; Maintains injury data information in proper order and reported in pre-assigned time frame To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need Bachelor degree in the related field, Athletic Therapist, Kinesiology, etc.; Maintain all professional certifications in accordance with the appropriate governing bodies and respective institutions. i.e. Canadian Athletic Therapist Association (CATA);First Aid/CPR; Satisfactory completion of a Criminal Record Check; NCCPSafe Sport Certified; Abides by all established policy and procedures specific to both the Athletic Therapy facilities.
