A large proportion of the participants come from Chinese and international cultural backgrounds. Our aim is to inspire youth to learn about and explore B.C.’s beautiful outdoors and wilderness. While additionally becoming aware, skilled and knowledgeable in wilderness conservation, environmental stewardship and cross-cultural competence.VOS is a modest size not-for-profit society who has been operating and growing its offerings to the Vancouver community for over ten years. A significant number of the participants and their families are new to Canadian culture and the exciting and fun outdoor recreational activities traditionally engaged in by Canadian youth and households. Part of what VOS provides is an outdoor cross-cultural experience that is often the participants’ first exposure to outdoor activities and wilderness and the fun adventures and opportunities therein. Some of the VOS program activities include; biking, sea kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, mountain hiking, stand up paddle boarding, overnight car camping and rafting. Specialist certified Activity Instructors, other then the Group Leaders, will facilitate technical activities such as rock climbing and sea kayaking. During all activities, Group Leaders will be responsible to accompany and assist with the group and lessons, as directed by the Instructors.The Group Leader position is for those who want to take their educator skills to a higher level of competence and learn how to lead culturally divers groups in challenging outdoor experiential activities and environments. We are looking for Group Leaders who will be responsible for the daily 24 hour supervision, organization and care of teen participants taking part in a range of different programs located at, and based out of, the campus of Quest University in Squamish, British Columbia.Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Working directly with participants, team members and supervisors to lead teen multi-day outdoor skill, education, activity and cultural adventure programs.Safety, health and well-being of participants.Sight and sound supervision of groups and participants.Daily group briefing and debriefing of activities.Activities include- Ocean Sea Kayaking, bike riding, Peak to Peak Gondola Hiking Whistler, , Day Hiking the Chief SquamishParticipants sleep and eat indoors at a university campus in Squamish.Driving a 24 passanger tour bus to activity sights.Qualifications:Class 4 drivers licence to drive a 24 passenger tour bus.Experience preferred supervising, teaching and leading teen groups, preferably in a camp or outdoor program setting, in experiential education activities.Enthusiastic and positive outlookandopen-mindedness.Provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check.Bonus Points:Speak Japanese, this is a Japanese school group but the will have two interpreters with them.
