Job Description

FULL TIME / TEMPORARY (SEASONAL)
LOCATION: CALGARY
$20.00 PER HOUR / 35.0 HOURS PER WEEK
CONTRACT LENGTH: 8 WEEKS (preferred start date between June 17-24, 2024)
This position will see the successful applicant work with the Parkinson Association of Alberta’s Communications and Marketing department to visually help raise awareness for Parkinson disease and Parkinson Association, create informational collateral for clients and the general public, and promote our organization, programs and events through graphic design.
Working with and reporting to PAA’s Communications & Development Manager, you will learn and grow your graphic design and web design abilities as well as skills in creative collaboration, organization, communications, time management, and interpersonal relationships. You will use your existing and developing skills to help create a variety of print and digital collateral to enhance and support Parkinson Association of Alberta.

Responsibilities:

  • Consult with Supervisor and other staff/stakeholders to ask questions and gather relevant information (i.e.: overall look, content, and graphical elements) for projects.
  • Take the information you’ve gathered and conceptualize and design both print and digital collateral (including, but not limited to, brochures, posters, magazine, ads, social media, and website pieces)
  • Updating and monitoring organizations website and YouTube channel.
  • Present concepts to supervisor and/or other staff/stakeholders as required.
  • Work on multiple projects at the same time; efficiently and effectively managing your time and deadlines.
  • Attend meetings as required.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary degree or equivalent in graphic design, visual design, or digital design.
  • Basic understanding of Adobe InDesign (Necessary).
  • Intermediate understanding of Adobe Photoshop.
  • Basic understanding of Adobe Illustrator.
  • Experience with printing designs (in commercial setting, with bleed marks, color settings, resolution, etc).
  • Some experience designing for many mediums is a plus- social media, printing, digital, web, advertising.
  • Ability to work remotely and in our office.
  • Demonstrable graphic design skills with a strong portfolio.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Able to give and receive constructive criticism.
  • Ability to work in the evenings or weekends to support business needs.
  • Ability to meet the requirement of the Canada Summer Jobs program (must be between 15-30
    years of age, and have Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Refugee status
