Your work environment at EXP

EXP’s Hamilton office is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer-in-Training or Junior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. As part of the Geotechnical/Materials Testing group and reporting directly to Project Managers and Engineers, you will be responsible for the fieldwork that may include:

What a day at EXP has in store for you:

  1. Supervision of drilling and soil sampling
  2. Preparation of borehole logs
  3. Preparation of borehole location plans in AutoCAD
  4. Carrying out shallow and deep foundation evaluations and reviews
  5. Surveying ground elevations using rod & level, total station, or GPS
  6. Soil identification
  7. Monitoring site grading activities (including limited surveying)
  8. Reinforcing steel review
  9. Work closely with contractors, consultants and municipal personnel
  10. Writing geotechnical proposals and reports
  11. Writing inspection and testing proposals and site visit reports

What your experience looks like:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or similar and or nearing eligibility to apply

3-6 years of relevant experience, preferably from a consulting engineering office environment

Working knowledge of MTO, CSA, CCIL, and ASTM procedures is preferred but not required

Valid driver’s license and the possibility to travel throughout Southern Ontario job sites are also required (with mileage and expense reimbursement)

Strong written and communication skills are a must

Attention to detail

Ability to problem solve
