We are currently looking for a Junior/Intermediate Geomorphologist or Terrain Geologist to join our Arctic team in our Edmonton, AB office. Reporting to the Manager of Edmonton Arctic Engineering, the successful candidate will work as a Geomorphologist/Terrain Geologist specializing in permafrost and cold region projects, primarily in the Canadian Arctic and Alaska.Experience in geohazard assessments, permafrost terrain and surficial geology mapping is beneficial as well as experience with software packages such as ArcGIS Pro Image Analyst, PurVIEW, Summit, Civil 3D, and the Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting terrain analysis of the project sites located in permafrost regions.
  • Permafrost terrain and surficial geology mapping using 3D visualization software.
  • Geohazard assessment and geohazard designation mapping.
  • Permafrost-related landform / feature mapping using 3D visualization software.
  • Terrain stability mapping.
  • Managing surface water resources and fluvial geomorphology projects.
  • Preparing and reviewing technical reporting and support research and preparation of proposals.
  • Preparing and reviewing scope and cost estimates for geomorphology / geohazard tasks.
  • Building and maintaining client relationships as well as promoting company resources through business development initiatives.
  • Working collaboratively with the Edmonton Arctic group’s sister offices in Whitehorse and Yellowknife.
  • Preparing responses to Request for Proposals from potential clients and information/data requests from existing clients, and various other reports and proposals.
  • Creating project plans and implementing sub-consultant and sub-contractor agreements.
  • Planning and conducting field investigations, site reconnaissance visits, ground-truthing of desktop air photo / satellite imagery interpretation / mapping, geotechnical and permafrost investigations, instrumentation installation, and geohazard assessments in the cold regions for 2 to 3 weeks at a time.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Physical Geography, Earth Sciences, Water Resources or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience with terrain assessments related to geomorphic processes, channel stability, pipeline crossings, transportation infrastructure, municipal infrastructure, mining infrastructure, and geohazard assessment projects.
  • Providing the technical analysis needed to meet project goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of Terrain Classification Systems for British Columbia and Yukon.
  • Experience with field data collection (including borehole/test pit logging and overburden/rock core sampling and field testing) interpolation, and reporting.
  • Experience with geomorphic field work and assessments.
  • Strong technical writing skills and experience writing technical documents and proposals.
  • Ability to lead and work effectively with multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Exceptional organizational and self-directed time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work with multiple personality types.
  • Proven capabilities in writing reports and other technical documents.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to work as part of a team. Must possess a strong ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with staff and clients.
  • Professional registration or eligible to register as P.Eng. or P.Geo in Canada.
