Abbotsford Regional Hospital & Cancer Centre (ARHCC) – General Surgery

Full-time | Acute Care Surgeon

Fraser Health (FH) is the heart of health care for nearly two million people in 20 diverse communities from Burnaby to Fraser Canyon on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Coast Salish and Nlaka’pamux Nations and is home to 32 First Nations within the Fraser Salish region.

Our hospital and community-based services are delivered by a team of 48,000+ staff, medical staff and volunteers dedicated to serving our patients, families, and communities.

The Division of General Surgery at ARHCC and the Fraser Heath Authority are looking to hire an acute care general surgeon to join the group, including one existing ACS surgeon. The applicant will hold FRCSC certification in general surgery as well as full licensure with the CPSBC. It is expected that the applicant will be proficient in a broad range of acute care general surgery and emergent endoscopy. The ideal applicant will also be comfortable with trauma surgery. The successful candidate would be expected to be involved in UBC resident teaching.

There are currently eight general surgeons in the group servicing the busy catchment area of Fraser East. Call is structured as weeks using an acute care surgery model. The successful candidate is anticipated to do 12 - 16 weeks of call per year. During each call week, there is a limited daytime trauma OR slate and emergent endoscopy time available, which are in addition to daily after-hours emergent surgical time. No resources will be made available for elective surgery or elective endoscopy. The successful candidate is also expected to provide outpatient follow up for acute care patients. A MOCAP level 1 agreement provides an on-call stipend.

Please upload letters of interest, a copy of your CV and three letters of reference by August 22, 2024. These must include letters from residency and fellowship program directors. If you have been in practice for at least four years, a letter from your chief of surgery will be accepted in lieu.

Fraser Health values diversity in the work force and strives to maintain an environment of Respect, Caring & Trust. Fraser Health’s hiring practices aspire to ensure all individuals are treated in an inclusive, equitable and culturally safe manner.
