Job Description

Our client is a leading Canadian organization with operations across Canada, USA, and Europe. They offer a wide variety of wood products and, due to succession planning, are looking for a new General Manager to lead their well-established mill in Barwick, Ontario (relocation support offered). The new hire will be responsible for the safe manufacturing of quality products that meet customer expectations, at maximum efficiency, while developing organizational capability. Areas of accountability include, but are not limited to, the following: Safety, Production, Quality, Process Control, Maintenance, Human Resources, Cost, Forecasting and Budgeting. This is a full-time, permanent role presenting the opportunity to work with an efficient and skilled staff while overseeing a very profitable operation. Responsibilities: Creating and fostering a world class safety culture while managing people, capital, material, and time resources to yield the greatest productivity and profit possible while maintaining product quality, customer service, consistency, and longevity of the operation. Developing and managing realistic operating, capital and long-range plans that reduce cost and increase productivity achieving operational excellence. Focusing on cost management and the strategic procurement of fiber, resin, energy and labor. Planning and implementing process improvements to reduce costs, maximize efficiency and improve quality. Maintaining optimum staffing levels while developing team capability. Managing and maintaining a positive and respectful work environment where team members actively contribute to the company’s success. Assuring environmental compliance. Managing the effectiveness of management team; ensuring ongoing coaching and development, communicating expectations, fostering teamwork. Ensuring adequate succession planning and building capability. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Wood Science or other relevant education. Minimum of five years’ experience at a plant leadership level, preferably in the wood products industry. Proven knowledge of manufacturing methods and process improvement. Experience in safety-sensitive, capital-intensive environments. Demonstrate proactive enthusiastic leadership with a history of building, developing, and maintaining strong teams. High degree of business acumen and strong technical skills. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to motivate their team.
