Bulkley Valley Concert Association (BVCA)

Open until filled. First application review in July 2024, with subsequent review semi-monthly.

Organization Description:

Since 1959, the BV Concert Association (BVCA) has been presenting arts in the Bulkley Valley, situated on unceded Wet’suwet’en Territory. BVCA’s programming is run by a Board of Directors and a small team of contractors. We are a multi-disciplinary arts presentation organization that this year presented four music and one dance show as well as several community engagement opportunities. The BVCA Season and fiscal year runs June 1 - May 31.

BVCA strives to invite community members to feel reflected and inspired by who is on stage. We are committed to excellent artistic programming. Recent and current projects work alongside LGBTQ2S+ artists, BIPOC artists, female-identifying artists and Wet’suwet’en artists. Our 23/24 Season was focused on bringing music and dance to our community.

Part-time Contract Position OR Employee for a one year term.

The ideal candidate will have experience and understanding across multiple performing arts disciplines, and some knowledge of arts presentation and / or touring. Non-profit management experience is an asset.

The General Manager (GM) is accountable to the Board of Directors - not individually, but as a whole. The Board is represented, in communication with the GM, solely by the President.

The General Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the BVCA to keep work organized and efficient.

Responsibilities:

General Manager duties for 2024/25:
Maintain communication with Board and support staff / contractors
Managing BVCA budget / work effectively with BVCA bookkeeper remotely
Paying bills and invoices in a timely manner
Filing documents to the Drive utilizing Board file system
Weekly - checking BVCA emails, mail and correspondence
Regular check in with BVCA President

Season 24/25
Manage admin tasks related to 5 Season performances, with the first on October 1, 2024 and the last on April 23, 2025
Tracking audience numbers and other programming documentation
Prepare final reports for funders
Maintain communication and connection with partners (CICK Smithers Community Radio, Dance West Network and others)
May collaborate on grant writing
May assist with beginning a sponsorship program
Provide guidance to a local candidate for the role of future General Manager.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of not for profits and experience working with Boards a plus
Experience managing organizations and/or businesses
Overseeing the budget and managing expenses for multiple projects
Ensuring expenses are paid, tracked and filed accurately and expeditiously
Managerial and leadership skills including
Effective working relationship with non-profit Board
Self-motivation and time management
Problem-solving and critical-thinking
Ability to support healthy working environments
Ability to support other employees effectively
Excellent Computer skills: Google Drive, Excel, Word, Google Docs, Email
Effective use of Zoom and Social media is essential
Strategic planning and fundraising experience a plus

$30-35 / hr (estimate 40 hours per month)
