Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: The main duties of this position are to aid in the processing of food orders for our Food Bank and School Weekend Feeding (Backpacks) Programs. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Aid with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting food donations/purchased food for our Food Bank and Backpack programs, and assist with preparing donated items for distribution • Maintain Food Bank/Backpack stock, cleanliness, tidiness, and organization of Food Bank and Backpack areas. If needed, assist with food drive. • May receive and process applications and telephone calls for the food hamper program. • Place food supply orders with Supervisor for the Food Bank and School Weekend Feeding (Backpack) Programs • May be required to pick up food supplies • Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner. • Ensure that program fliers and resource materials are stocked and available for distribution • Assist with the delivery of Weekend Feeding Program (Backpacks) food bags to various schools in Red Deer • Assist with Seniors Lunch Program • This position also assists the Community Ministries team during the Christmas season. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: *NOTE: For some jobs, you may be required to provide validated educational documentation.Education/Certifications: • High School Diploma or Equivalent an asset • Must provide an original copy of a current Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License and current Driver’s Abstract • Safe Food Handlers Certificate an asset • Standard First Aid and/or WMHIS an asset but not required. Experience: • Experience working in community based programs an asset • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilitiesRequired Skills/Capabilities: • Work requires frequent amount of standing, walking, bending, repetitive lifting, climbing stairs and the ability to lift up to 30 pounds or 50 pounds with assistance. • Ability to work independently, and participate as an active and responsibility team member in a cooperative team environment Good organizational and time management skills, ability to follow detailed instructions • Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement • Self-motivated/disciplined • Effective organizational and time management skillsSuccessful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide: • Background check consent • A clear Criminal Record Check • A clean drivers abstractDAYS and HOURS of work: Your supervisor will set the hours of work, which will typically be Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 3:00pm, includes ½ hour unpaid lunch break. $17.00 per hour.The Salvation Army offers accommodation for applicants with disabilities in its recruitment process.
