Company: Natural Resources Canada Posting Closes: July 4, 2024 – 23:59, Pacific Time Salary range: $80,903 to $96,991 Job Type: Initially, this process will be used to staff the positions on a temporary basis for a duration of 12 months with a possibility of extension Duties: The duties include but are not limited to a combination of the following: Design, recommend, and implement methodologies to compile and manipulate large datasets. For example, datasets describing forest fires, weather, topography, vegetation, socio-economic factors, and human land use. Perform quality control on these datasets and apply to models relevant to wildland fire science. Develop, evaluate and implement fire behaviour models and build into computer applications and tools. Performs spatial data management and analysis using geographic information systems. Participate and lead in field data collection activities. And maintain and operate scientific instruments and equipment in the field. Develop, coordinate, and interacts with clients and researchers collaboratively to deliver knowledge mobilization related to wildland fire science and fire danger rating systems. The intent of this process is to staff 3 term positions: Fire Analyst Programmer Fire Science Analyst Wildfire Research Analyst In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications) Education: Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry or some other science relevant to the position such as environmental science (forestry, geography) or computer science (see Note). Note: The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and must have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization. Experience: Experience determining research sources, methods, techniques and practices. Experience compiling, synthesizing and analyzing large datasets from scientific sources. Experience in assisting with the preparation of scientific and technical papers. Experience preparing datasets for computer modelling applications for the analysis of science-based data.
